NSW Cup restructure

Can't believe i'm am saying this .........but I agree with your sentiments ECT !

I do honestly believe that the differing population disbursements of the two states plays a role in the set up of the State leagues. If there were the equivalents of the four NQ / CQ centres in the northern parts of NSW (with the same transport infrastructures) then things may well be different. ( Though I'd wonder if say Tweed Coast would rather fly to Sydney and beyond more than their current drive to most locations arrangements)

The days of watching 3 grades play in one day - where you would see lots of local boys coming through the ranks - are very much on the outer. People are just time poor ....and to be honest more pre main game socialising appears to be done outside the ground these days, so people are only arriving for the NRL game.

Reserve Grade needs to be left in the history books and memories of those old enough to remember them.

Na two sides in the riverina would be overdoing it i think. The main aim should be to have representation from the major regions as in the q cup where you have sunnshine coast, central qld, mackay district etc....

But agreed balmain is a no go and old tigers fans should be happy the entity has kept its branding the nrl making a second tier tigers sides unmeccessary.

If they can make the NZRL better financially their main aim should be to strengthen the provincial championship to the point where they dont need sides in the nsw cup. That would be major progress for the game and is more medium to long term

Western nsw is a must!

Id say the aim for NZ should be to provide them their own conference in the State Championship, maintaining their opportunity to play on the biggest stage.

But yes, a self-sustainable exclusively domestic conference would be fantastic

I would have a 16 team QLD Cup and a 16 team NSW cup. No teams are named after NRL clubs however NRL teams can affiliate with as many of these NSW or QLD cup teams as they like.

QLD Cup
Burleigh Bears
Tweed Heads Seagulls
Easts Tigers
Ipswich Jets
Central Queensland Capras
Mackay Cutters
Northen Pride
Norths Devils
PNG Hunters
Redcliffe Dolphins
Souths Logan Magpies
Sunshine Coast Falcons
Townsville Blackhawks
Wynuum Manly Seagulls
Toowoomba Clydesdales
Wests Panthers or Northen Territory side

NSW Cup
North Sydney Bears
Newtown Jets
Balmain Tigers
Wests Magpies
Wentworthville Magpies
Mounties
Illawarra Steelers
Wyong Roos
Fiji Side
Newcastle Rebels (newcastle side)
Windsor Wolves
Wagga Wagga
Dubbo
Mudgee
Bathurst
Bankstown or Cronulla side

I would hope the NRL helps fund an 8 team NZ Cup competition which can have teams affiliated with NRL clubs if they choose.

Auckland 1
Auckland 2
Wellington
Christchurch
Dundein
Waikato
Bay of Plenty
Whangarei

*relating to my previous post a Victorian side may be a better fit then an Cronulla or Bankstown side

ideally a Perth and Melbourne side should be included in one of the comps

Needs a lot more development of WARL clubs and sheer player numbers before we could survive in a 2nd tier comp.

I'm surprised they are suggesting a Fiji team, didn't think the game was that strong there?

The domestic comp has come on strongly in recent years as far as i have heard

Has the perth bid published any plans for the pathway should they gain admission? I would say an affiliate is most likely on top of a perth NYC side.

In response to earlier comments re. Melbourne. They have firmly placed their pathway in the QRL now with the NYC side being based on the sunny coast from now on, so there is no chance of them fielding a side in the nsw cup for the forseeable future.

It's growing fast, seen by a lot of people as a new sport.

A NSW Cup team and the associated player/coaching pathways would be a massive boost to the game there.

Maybe a playing against the big Australian teams (even if it is only in QLD Cup) will act as a catalyst to really jump-start interest.

Being a small island nation, they wouldnt have much opportunity to compete in a major competition (similar to PNG), a QLD Cup team will be a source of National pride.

Its just hard to imagine any west coast franchise having the finances to send 4 teams across the country each year- SG ball, NYC, NSW cup & NRL

I think we will see SG ball, NYC & NRL based in perth and then a feeder relationship with a big Sydney club like mounties

It's not a NSW wide comp and it never will be. But that's no excuse for destroying the qld cup in favour of an expensive, uninteresting national (yeah right, the NRL isn't even national) comp that will centralise the game in Sydney even more.

Maybe have a combined Guyra/Armidale side in the Comp ECT sponsored by the Costa Group(Blush Tomotoes) and the Annual Lamb and Potato Festival.

With the under 20's to be chopped it will end up like the AFL one game at each ground - players not selected for AFL playing in reserves. Big question is where are the players from under 18's rep teams when they turn 18 are going to be playing??- surely not in a NSW cup comp??

Bring back - first grade/reserve grade/under 23's- all at the same ground and a proper as there can be club championship since clubs wont play each other twice.

Did Richardson ever play?? seems like he is suffering from delayed concussion with that Comp proposal

There is a lot of talk that QLD Cup and NAW Cup wngage the fans

Yet crowds bar the PNG Hunters are only around 150 to 1000

National RG wont impact those crowds

As NRL club crowds are different to NSW Cup or QLD Cup crowds

And we get more than those crowd numbers at National U20s today

U20s and any imaginary reserve grade do and would bring precisely ZERO more supporters through the gates.

Yet you want to talk about PNG - the club that you want to relegate to the third tier. They draw bigger crowds than some NRL teams in the qld cup but im sure they'd love to maintain a full time squad and spend plenty on a team that isn't even playing reserve grade. At least theyd win the comp. They'd shit it in against blokes who aren't even close to an NRL squad.

I am not sure how PNG or Fiji will reduce running costs for QLD or NSW Cip local teams

But NZ are lobbing very strongly for National U20s

This exposure will improve with National RG as it helps the domestic comp grow and helps fight off rival coades in NZ

It can do the same in Melbourne and the Gold Coast

Some clubs would consistently get more than that. Northern Pride's record home attendance is 4390.

If you take the best players out of these clubs and put them into a NRL reserve grade it will reduce the quality and profile of the QLD Cup, which would inevitably reduce public interest.

Not bad for a mob of park footballers.

How good could they be with an NRL contract like many of their opposition have ?
