“I’m not even worried about it,” Mr Hayson told the Herald Sun. “People can say all they want but this is the figment of someone’s imagination.

“It’s a bloke who wears a rug, we all call him Wiggy. I know he started all this is.

“He’s been making stuff up for six months.”

However, Mr Hayson would not name the person he refers to as Wiggy.

“The article alleging my involvement stated that the betting agencies who were contacted for the story reported no suspicious activity on the games,” Hayson said. “We all know when there’s a sting the bookies are the first to blow up, complain and demand an immediate investigation. We are now nearly a year on. And they haven’t said a thing.”

This.

Match fixing has occured in sports for years, long before betting sponsorship.

Match fixing is anti-betting. The bookies are the ones who get ripped off.

That's not to say that I am happy with the saturation of betting advertising and the like either though, mind.

Notice the ARU on their website have 23 approved betting operators for their code, for which they have agreements.
And Bandana Boy FitzSimons gets on his high horse bagging NRL involvement.Beware karma red head.

The more you look at the allegations the less sense they make. This Wiggy guy has apparently been telling all and sundry about his participation in a crime and is clearly targeting Heyson. And Heyson is right about bookies being the first to complain about dodgy betting patterns, a substantial bet in the $100,000 on a 5/1 outsider (Parramatta) would have had then screaming blue murder. But if it does amount to nothing I can't imagine there will be any apologies coming from the media sadly, it is already down as 'another' rugby league scandal.

Fitz has mentioned the Nth Qld v Easts game back in 2009. Easts lost 32-16 after leading 16-0 at half time. A big bet was placed on Nth Qld to win 13+. I was at this game. I tipped Nth Qld (that's about as adventurous as it gets for me). I need to hang out with more colourful and interesting people.

why does Rugby League have the grubbiest journos going around?

Bourbo Beccy was on dead set legends telling all and sundry how it was a done deal they were guilty and how scummy it is players betting large sums on greyhounds.

I highly doubt there's anything in it...but if there is, the game will live on & so will Manly.

Shame will only be on a few players forever.

Absolutely.

If anyone is found guily rub them out.

But nothing to do with any club as a whole.
