Bandannaman is a buffoon.

Anyway nice to have some more drama ... where would we be without scandals overshadowing the game.

Serious accusations are troubling.
Link to organised crime is troubling
Gambling in general around the sport is troubling
But the way the journalist wrote that, that the lack of money involved, ( it almost sounds as if he he is casting doubts on the story) is the 'troubling issue' almost comes across as a journalist being disappointed that their might not be a story there.

Media love bad news... just like every time there's a mass shooting in the US or a natural disaster somewhere and there are fatalities, they will come out and say "so far there are x people confirmed deceased but that number is sure to rise significantly"... why not try and be positive??!!

I remember a few years back when there was flooding up in Queensland and that knob David Koch was interviewing some mayor of a town in the region... Turns out they weren't all that badly affected and Koch is saying, "you guys must be on edge there, expecting the worst when the rivers break their banks". The mayor says "not really, it's not too bad actually". Koch sounded disapponted and pretty much cut the interview short... Merkins the lot of them...

looked after I posted and big difference is NRL website has the odds and betting company showing and linked in fixtures and on front page where as AFL doesn't. Not sure about the proliferation during shows and game day as don't watch AFL. Given they are controlled by the TV companies I expect it might be but wondered if Ch9 are worse than Ch7 for it? Last night Kent said NRL was making $30mill a year from the bookies, betting is big business for the game it seems. Between casinos and betting companies there are certainly a lot of gambling companies targeting NRL fans.

To me, and I might be wrong, but the AFL and NRL websites www.nrl.com and www.afl.com.au look mighty similar.

I took it as meaning he finds it troubling that accusations have been made which don't appear to be supported by any evidence of unusual betting patterns which means that reputations are potentially unfairly tarnished. I find that troubling too.

all the dodgy shit mainly occurs overseas

i have no idea if Pakistan cricket has sponsorship deals with betting agencies

All the sports have sponsorship / partnership arrangements - just by checking their main page of their website.

If Beccy or Fitzy think the NRL have a problem, then CA, AFL and A League all have troubles. In fact, the A League looks to have the bigger / more of ad splash from TAB than the other 3 major codes.

Once again, NRL is a kicking can for the gasp outragers.

well Perth Dickhead links sponsorship to more chance of match or spot fixing

i can't see how it would mke a difference and every man and his dog knows they've had masive problems with these things yet have no sponsorship with betting agencies

Main difference I saw was nrl has it main page alongside the front page fixtures, then on the fixtures list page then on the match details pages. Afl you have to get into the match details before seeing it. Could be wrong though as it was a quick look. They're probably both as bad as each other but watching NRL I'm sick of it being threaded into the fabric of the game, you can't watch a night of footy without being smacked in the face with gambling, be it on jerseys, on pitch side boards, in shows, in ad breaks etc. Did they change the laws re gambling advertising couple of years ago? Don't remember this proliferation 5 or 6 years ago?
