Sterlo's side for origin

1. Jarryd Hayne
2. Brett Morris
3. Matt Cooper
4. Jamie Lyon
5. Timana Tahu
6. Terry Campese
7. Brett Kimmorley
8. Michael Weyman
9. Michael Ennis
10. Josh Perry
11. Anthony Watmough
12. Ben Creagh
13. Luke Lewis

14. Kurt Gidley
15. Tom Learoyd-Lahrs
16. Trent Waterhouse
17. Brett White

his reasoning seems pretty solid http://nospam.com/2a3fxku. I would be more than happy with this team.

I'm a huge Campese fan. I didn't think anyone else would have him in their sides but I'd love it if he was picked. Bird was god awful in City/Country and Preston has been carrying the Titans. We have no other true 5/8 option.

I didn't think he played badly last year.

I don't like Tahu in the side at all. He's been ordinary this year in every game I've watched.

You are right about Campese being the only true 5/8 available to NSW at the moment, although it could be argued that Carney is a 5/8 playing at No. 1.

Let's face it, NSW selectors don't need much excuse to dump someone ... the list of halves used over the past 4-5 years continues to grow.

Surprised Gallen didn't get even a mention in Sterlo's article. He has to be one of the form players in the comp this year. Was also very solid for Australia.

I'd be happy with that side except id have Gallen over Waterhouse and Barrett over Campese.

Sterlo's side is pretty good. Get Gallen in the side somewhere, bench maybe instead of Waterhouse (as above). Not sure about Campo at 6, rather Carney instead.

I agree that Tahu's form has generally been, shall we say, way off the pace so far. He looks slow and weak compared to most centres he has come up against.

The sting Tahu can provide with his hits can really inspire the side on the field. Just like Haynes intercept last year. If Tahu put on a massive hit say on Inglis, the side would lift. The guy is the ultimate professional. I have no doubt NSW could win with him at wing or center.

You know what would be interesting?

If some sod got on here, started a poll for each position, a vote was carried out and a LU NSW's team was announced.

If nothing else it would promote interesting discussion.

And hey, the thread on hookers would be about a thousand pages long.

Especially when everybody knows the real answer is to call Danny Buderus and arrange an Alfie Langer esque comeback, complete with either Wing or Gower on the bench.

My team:

1. Todd CARNEY
2. Jarryd HAYNE
3. Jamie LYON
4. Josh MORRIS
5. Brett MORRIS
6. Jamie SOWARD
7. Brett KIMMORLEY
8. Josh Perry
9. Robbie FARAH ©
10. Michael WEYMAN
11. Nathan HINDMARSH
12. Anthony LAFFRANCHI
13. Paul GALLEN

14. Michael ENNIS
15. Anthony WATMOUGH
16. Ryan HOFFMAN
17. Luke BAILEY

Justifications: No more players based on reputation. From now, form and effort play the part for me. Carney is playing fullback. He's a grub, and not many of us like him, but apart from the Bulldogs game (in which the whole team gave up), he's been in fine form. Taking heat of the halves is something that will come into play at the back end of each half.

No one dances better on the wing than Hayne, and he is also a must in the team. Speed to burn. Lyon has been in good form for Manly this year. He's earnt his spot. The Morris twins have scored 100+ tries between them, leading try scorers of 2009 and so far Brett's effort in 2010 speaks for itself. Josh Morris I'm sure would have something to smile about if he didn't get injured early on.

Soward - grub. Plus he lead the Dragons to the Minor Premiership of 2009 (albeit questionable), and currently the ladder leaders for 2010. Kimmorley, a Veteran is what's needed to guide the team around the park. Weyman and Shillington, arguable the best NSW props in form at the moment. Hindmarsh, Laffranchi and Gallen - hard workmen. Play hard, and are what SOO football is all about.

Farah and Ennis - why have 2 top level athletes compete for 1 spot when 2 have been used before (Buderus and Wing)? Start with Farah who's versatile, then bring on Ennis at the back end of the half when the opposition forwards are tiring. Ennis and Farah both also posses kicking from dummy half, taking pressure off the halves. Ennis can also be used for goal-kicking if needed.

Watmough, Hoffman and Bailey - veteran forwards who know what tough footy is about. Have these big strong guys make an impact off the bench.

We only need one hooker

Shillington is a Qlder

Carney at fullback would be the worst idea ever, he would get bombed the sh*t out of

Hindmarsh and Bailey are slow and past it

Laffranchi aint hitting holes like he used to

Hoffman = big, strong and tough footballer...get real banana peel!

I'm with Pete.

Plus there aint any Newcastle players in your squad. NSW selectors have a fetish for Newcastle players whether you, me or Mrs Doubtfire like it or not. Trust me there will be at least one Newcastle player in the team, regardless of form, injury or armageddon.

When was the last time a NSW didn't have a Newcastle player?

The Australian players might as well be incumbents, with the other positions selected from the CvC form:

1. Dugan (best fullback in CvC)
2. Hayne (Aus)
3. Idris/Tahu
4. Lyon (Aus)
5. Morris (Aus)
6. Bird/Carney
7. Kimmorley
8. Perry (Aus)
9. Ennis/Farah
10. Weyman (Aus)
11. Lewis (Aus)
12. Waterhouse/Stewart/Laffranchi/Creagh
13. Gallen (Aus)

14. Gidley (Aus)
15. Watmough (Aus)
16. Mason/Learoyd-Lahrs
17. Snowden/White

3 Things

1- You do not need 2 specialist hookers in state of origin, wing was only bench for nsw because he can play from hooker, to half back to 5/8 and even centre if we were desperate. Farah or ennis cannot play any of those except hooker, do not say farah can play halves cause he cant.

2- Shillington, like stated by pete is qld. But seems your putting qlders in our team, can we please have slater, petero, and inglis please?

3- Carney is not close to being fullback, maybe later years depending on what he does for roosters, but not now thanks

Can't believe I forgot Shillo was a qlder. Changed him to Josh Perry :p

Inglis should be playing for NSW. His first game as a 16 year old was on the NSW North Coast (Kempsey) so he should be playing for us anyway :(
