NSW Team 2014

Not sure if Mansour is ready for Origin - NRL and Origin are obviously two different arenas, but he would still make plenty of metres. The only concern is his ability with kick receptions. It is a facet he has been working on, but the memories of Nathan Merritt last year is still fresh in the minds of many... if he can fix that, he rapidly lifts up the pecking order.

Fifita is planning on playing this week I think. Either way we will find out this afternoon
I don't see Andrew Fifita in the Cronulla side this week? Cronulla/origin players have the bye next week. I think NSW only concern is the replacement for the Morris brothers. There is enough forwards to continue on with the job without Fifita. My guess is, they will probably keep Hoffman either starting or off the bench. Can't wait to see the team announcement.

surely cant give it to Walker over Hoppa? hoppa played origin and has shown he deserves to be in origin, Walker is getting better no doubt he'll be there in a few years but think Hoppa's origin experience will benefit NSW better not to mention Hayne finding room and linking up with hoppa as they do at Parra, same with Mcmanus over Mansour/Taufua. Experience > Youth.
Hoppa is hardly a veteran. He is in his second year of NRL after beingnout of the game for two years. He has played one game for NSW and his form isn't anywhere near as good as when he was at Manly. His defence is nowhere near good enough

Hoppa has only played six more games than Walker and has played less than Wighton. Frankly McManus would be ahead of Hoppa on the experience argument.

Is Kane Linnet that much worse than the blokes being mentioned???

BJ doesn't have a brain in his head at times. As someone said above, rocks or diamonds. Big, strong and _ _ _ _.

No he wasn't named. I was going off something earlier in the week where he said he was hopeful of playing. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a late inclusion though

Haha Bj Leilua... surely they jest?
Jesus Christ, that'd be such a poor selection. He isnt even in good form.

TBH im warming to Walker especially if Slater cant go and Inglis is at fullback, he's in great form, is a noted try scorer, defensively i worry but then it's not a major concern if Inglis isn't directly opposite him

Walker might be the answer

Walker is a good defender, he rarely leaks points or makes bad reads. But he is not an aggressive defender like Wighton (although aggression might not mean anything against Inglis). I think most agree Walker will get in there eventually and probably be around for a long time, but there is no need to rush him. He is only 19 still, and if he is still in this sort of form next year they won't need an injury to pick him

There's only one type of bad BJ and it's Leilua

I like the Linnet suggestion, he's no superstar but is solid as a rock week in week out. Good defensively and can sneak out a try. He's 24/25 now and must have played close to 100 NRL games at this stage of their careers I'd take him in the centres over Wighton, Walker or Hoppa .

Walker isn't a bad defender, most people are worrying because he was run over by Jamal Idris who has 30 pounds on Inglis and 40 on Walker and it was a front on shot as well which is an impossible angle to tackle Idris.

Idris could be the best center in the game and occasionally shows that freakish talent. I remember he did that to Inglis once (though Inglis was a bit out of shape).

What a waste of talent, I'd kill to have his natural ability

And he was like 21 at the time! He has all the talent in the world and he really had plugged up his defence in the last 2 years. Would like to have seen another match up with him and Inglis.

I wouldn't mind the inclusion but you have to also look at it this way; has not played since his injury (no match fitness), and Cronulla bye week rd14? But then again, Gallen is not playing this week and he is definitely in Game 2. So yeah it is a possibility. But it won't be a safe bet to include Fifita.

My issues for Walker defensively is as BranVan3000 suggested, his aggression
The best thing about Josh Morris at centre in SOO is how aggressive he's been, every time Inglis has the ball, he's up in his face straight away, doesn't give him time to build up a head of steam, do what he does as a ball player on the fringes.

Who ever is replacing Morris needs to do the same thing. He needs to be an aggressive defender and have the strength to hit and stick on a guy of Inglis's size

the reality is Wighton, Hoppa, Walker, BJ... it may be that none of those guys are able to do that, maybe Morris is too hard to replace.

As said though, Walker is 19, he's got plenty of time and is going to play a lot of Origin footy, throwing him to the wolves this early, in a do or die clash, on big game Inglis might not be the best method of debuting a young star

Its not actually do or die. Agree that Morris is extremely hard to replace, i'd go with Hoppa I think, he was 18th man and been there before.
