NSW Team 2014

The thing that's frustrating is that Slater is slowing down and Boyd is dreadfully out of form... there's probably going to be plenty of grass to find with the boot for a kicker that's good enough. With our forwards either matching or besting QLD for the past few years, a boot that can keep QLD in their half of the field is invaluable.

Have NSW kicked a 40/20 since 2005?

Prob not, but NSW have had about 40 combos of halves since 2005.
For mine that just increases the number of people who have had the opportunity to do so, lol.

Haven't had many good kickers in the team in that period. Soward the only one I can think of.

Doesn't matter what happens between now and selection - the media have their darlings in Maloney and J Reynolds selected at 5/8th... and nothing can possibly displace Pearce. None of them have the ability of Mullen... but both are "origin players". You've even got Bird and Gall in the papers saying they want Reynolds selected. Forget having a playmaker that can provide opportunities and dominate the field with their boot... we just want someone who will try really, really hard to win.

J Reynolds offers nothing outside of a keen attitude and good support play... but don't let that get in the way. He doesn't have the defence of Mullen, he doesn't have the boot of Mullen and he doesn't have the passing game of Mullen, either. If I were Mullo, I'd give up on ever getting a look in at rep level again if he's overlooked this year. They clearly don't want him regardless of what's going on. At least, from the Knights perspective, Wayne has managed to get the Origin monkey off his back and he has been able to play well despite the time of the year. It's taken him a long time to get to this point.

Halves that can actually set up points are so overrated lol.

Halves that can get repeat sets in origin are overrated also. Scary that Sam Thaiday got a repeat set with a grubber kick in 2013 series and Pearce got none

God Pearce/Maloney were average last night again.

...and yet there are articles this morning suggesting Laurie Daley can now breathe easy because the NSW halves are now a walk up start. After last night I think Daley should be more worried than usual. Even Gus made a few comments alluding to a lack of simple ball playing ability from these two. His worries are warranted.

Daniel Tupou is the only bloke from the Roosters who deserves a chance.

I don't know how I can continue to pick myself up off the floor and keep following this team after 8 straight series defeats. Got any tips for me, THE CHAMP?

My team would be;

1. Dugan
2. B.Morris
3. Jennings
4. Hayne
5. Tupou
6. Kelly
7. Mullen
8. Gallen
9. Farrah
10. Tamou
11. Watmough
12. Scott
13. Bird

14. Lewis
15. Fifita
16. Cordner
17. Woods

I dont like Woods but he deserves a shot and I think Albert Kelly or Sutton would better if nullen is at halfback directing the side.

Whatever team they pick, they need to learn their lesson and stick with it for the series. I think they've invested in the wrong halves (as many do).

I don't get why people would put Dugan at fullback ahead of Hayne and Stewart? Why?

Brett Stewart is right up there for try assists and line break assists and Hayne probably has the best running game
I can understand both having Stewart at 1 and Hayne in the centres or having Hayne at 1 and leaving Stewart out, but Dugan over both? No thanks.

1. B. Stewart/Hayne
2. B. Morris
3. J. Morris
4. Hayne/Jennings
5. Taufua
6. Mullen
7. A. Reynolds/Kelly
8. Woods
9. Farah
10. Fifita
11. Lewis
12. Bird
13. Gallen

14. Merrin
15. Watmough
16. Cordner
17. Mannah/Tolman/Galloway/Douglas

Either one of Stewart or Hayne at fullback will do fine. I'd pick Taufua just over Tupou. Jennings and J. Morris are both up to Origin level if Hayne isn't in the centres. Mullen is more creative than J. Reynolds. Maloney is out of form imo. Played very average last night. Papers saying the origin combination is back but most of their tries were Jennings and Tupou solo efforts off of Tigers errors. I put A. Reynolds or Kelly as 7 but literally any other half but Pearce. Just give someone else a go. Anyone.

I really don't see why Tamou is an automatic selection. Been average the last few years. Woods was poor in his only Origin game but he's been good enough to deserve another chance. Lewis, Bird, Gallen, Merrin and Watmough should be automatic selections if fit. Cordner was lame for Australia but still deserves a chance. Any of those props at 17 I think are good enough for a 20-30 minute stint in Origin.

Big fan of Mullen at 7.

Woods has had 2 origin games and has been monstered in both. He's been in great form so far but I'm not sure if he's an origin player.
