It's not a case of Hoffman or Scott being soft. Not at all.
Hoffman is becoming a senior member in this team. He can't wait for Hodkinson to bring him into the game on that left hand side of the field. Hard to do with Gal calling for it every 2nd tackle as well as Woods wanting to make an impact, but he'll have to get mouthy or be there when farah spots fatigue or a hole as the game wears on from Cronk, Gillett and Hodges on that side. Farah will run the ball from acting half and try to exploit this and Ryan has to be there to take advantage. Same with Scott on the other side of the field.
With the experience of being halves at one stage or another, Bird and Lewis have been great at being able to read this which is why they make an impact. Hoffman is more of a follower and waits for his halves to make a call for a play. His impact could be low again if he plays like he does at Melbourne.
I'm a fan of Scott, but like Hoffman, he could be in no-mans land waiting for Reynolds to bring him into the game. Mullen is great at utilising him. Like Hoffman above, he has to read the game and take advantage of sloppiness in the defensive line with Farah at acting half on the right side of the field, because I don't think Josh has the creativity and play making ability to use him like Mullen does.
