A QLDer and a reasoned post? Flabbergasted.

Sums up the situation fairly well and many unbiased NSWelshman will agree with you. The only ones who don't are those who support the club any respective player comes from. Unfortunately, this is the major impediment to any discussion or consensus amongst NSW fans........rather than actually sitting back and really thinking about the structure and attributes a player will bring to an Origin squad, a supporter of any club with a fringe Origin player will just push for that player to be selected. That's the disadvantage when players are being contributed from 10-11 clubs rather than just 4 or 5.

With the actual selections themselves, they all have that Fulton-esque touch about them. He certainly needs to be detached from anything to do with NSW origin. He wasn't even an Origin player. What the f**k is he bringing to the organisation? You look at the culture QLD have built around theirs with the FOGs and the continued passing down of the QLD origin philosophy through their teams, both the shit ones that have upset better NSW origin teams, and the greats like this one. It will continue once these guys have retired.

In contrast, NSW have had geriatrics in the past who have never been involved in the Origin set up as players choose the current players, and Fulton seems to be immune from any review of this.

This. Fulton was the genius who decided to put Jamie Lyon at 5/8th back in 2010, after all

Laurie has the benefit of being an Origin great. They need more people like him- even Gus- in and around the NSW team, whether on the coaching or support staff. Of the current players, I could see Gallen, Woods and possibly Hayne figuring in the future once their playing days are done. Not as selectors, but as personnel involved with the Blues teams that go into training camp. Apparently preparation for the game last night was flawless, so what needs to be looked at instead are:

a) Selection policy
b) Execution of game plans.

I can't help but feel that if DCE was from NSW, he would've been picked last night no questions asked.

It's about team culture. When NSW pick Paul Gallen as captain, year after year, and he continually pumps up Queensland before games with derogatory remarks, you have a problem.

Queensland has picked leaders as captain - Locker, Smith, Lewis, Meninga ... the list goes on.

NSW, as long as they pick grubs as captains, will lose. A fish rots from the head, and the sooner you off-load Gallen the better.

On Gallen's playing style - even Gus Gould has hinted that he overplays his hand continually. And it happened against last night. I don't know how many times I've seen Gallen hit it up on tackle four/five and dying with the ball, giving the halves only one set for creativity.

Not sure why he does this - he thinks he's being a hero or something, but it just nullifies the creativity of the halves. Gould commented on this as well - saying that he didn't know if Gallen was a front rower or a halfback.

Who to make captain instead? Find a leader. You may laugh, but someone like Wallace who leads by example and is unselfish. Or Tim Mannah. Anyone but Gallen.

On Gallen - last year's series win only came as a result of NSW unleashing the grubbiest grub-fest in Game Two - probably the worst game of State of Origin ever.

This will be the only way NSW will win going forward with Gallen as captain.

Gallen will never retire from Origin and Daley doesn't have the balls to make any tough selections. Looks like we are stuck with them both for a number of years.

On the topic of Daley...will he be back next year? He has had three series now with 1 win and 2 losses.
Is he the right man for next year?

Preaching to the choir.

I've been saying this for years on this board. The revolving door of NSW halves have continually been hampered by Gallen's continued involvement where it shouldn't be. Bird and Farah too over the years. They appear to stand out for NSW, but at the detriment to the structure and performance of NSW teams overall.

Anyway, all 3 should be on their way out now. Farah will probably get a reprieve as the acting half stocks for NSW are bog shit unless one of the younger guys can step up in the next year, but his time should be over too. The drama of the past week just highlights it for me.

I'm usually guttered after losing a decider but last night wasn't too bad, atleast my worst nightmare won't come true

Yeah but you are the one that said that Hopoate was a good selection pre series....remind me how that useless hack went?

Only guys that deserve to be back are Duges, Morris', Jennings, Woods, Farah, Klemmer and Hoffman. Rest are either out of their depth, over the hill or inconsistent. Tired of Gallen hogging the ball, Beau Scott being ineffective in attack, Pearce doing nothing, Hopoate playing like a typical Parramatta player and others just showing they're not up to it.

Keep: J Dugan, B Morris, J Morris, M Jennings, A Woods, R Farah, D Klemmer, R Hoffman

Ditch: W Hopoate, M Pearce, B Scott, P Gallen, G Bird, M Ennis

In Danger: T Hodkinson, J Tamou, T Merrin, J Jackson, B Cordner, A Fifita

Consider: J Tedesco, M Moylan, A Johnston, B Ferguson, J Mansour, J Roberts, D Walker, B Austin, A Reynolds, P Vaughan, T Sims, T Frizell, B Cartwright.

I've probably forgotten a few but those names are the ones that have been thrown in the most.

Yeah and my point was that he was there to shut down Inglis when he comes roaring down that edge. Inglis was moved to fullback and hardly came down the edge, it was Pearce who's defence failed on Inglis in the middle.

He's also not a leader - In most sports you wouldn't have a captain that always starts fights or complains to the media so much, it isn't a good look.
Captains lead by example.

Pick a team with points in them and a potential long term future:

1. Tedesco
2. B Morris
3. Jennings
4. Dugan
5. Ferguson
6. Austin
7. Reynolds
8. Woods
9. Peats / Rein
10. Tamou
11. Cartwright
12. Frizzell
13. Merrin

14. Fifita
15. Klemmer
16. Sims
17. Moylan (utility back assuming he becomes a half in 2016)

Lots of rookies I know. But we need to ditch the Origin failures and pick a team that can go for the bulk of the next 10 years.

So many good young players. Just hope we give them a shot rather than sticking with proven duds like Jackson and Cordner. If a player can't prove themself within their first 3 games, they should drop down the pecking order just a bit for the next inline to get a chance. Unless they seem to have improved/matured by the next series to warrant a 4th chance. For mine Cordner and Jackson need to drop below the next crop coming through barring a huge improvement in the next 12 months or the others suffering with form.

If any of these rookies lose form before then, they drop down the pecking order also. But if they keep it up for the next year, they shouldn't miss out because a shit player has experience and they don't. Give them the experience.

He was awful 2 out of 3 games. Hopeless selection, just admit it, you were wrong. Said it before, he isn't a rep winger. He might be a rep centre, might. Johnson among others deserves a chance.

Please show me one post where I said Hoppa was there for his attacking capabilities? If not i'll assume you're geniused. Like I said before and on several occasions, Hoppa was there for defense and that was against Inglis on the edge which he did a very good job on. Johnston would get smashed even worse then Hoppa, Hoppa was only the fill in for Ferguson this year. If Fergo is fit for selection, he'll be the pick. Him or Tedesco.

Defence lol, want me to show you how many tries he has let in. Defence was horrific attack was even worse. Said it before the series, pick wingers to score points. Hopoate was pathetic all series! I mean come on Boyd ran over him!

There we go, you are a genius. Yes do show me all these defensive lapses of Hoppa that led to tries.

Hoppa is a terrible defender. Easily the worst defender in that NSW backline. His first tackle attempt of the series set the tone, a miss on a kick chase in the opening minutes that gives up 60m. Considering who he got picked over Hoppa is up there with the worst NSW selections I can recall over this dominant run by QLD.

Boyd scoring untouched last night there is 1 without thinking. Where was the great defender Hopoate again?

You really are geniused.

Where's the rest? So he let in one try that was due to his own defensive lap in an entire series and all of a sudden he's a bad defender? Where's the rest? That was the ONLY one this series that was his own fault for not sliding on defense. The only reason you mentioned that without thinking is because there isn't anymore
