Thurston is gone, NSW will win easy.
I think Matt Scott is a bigger blow to QLD than JT. Dont get me wrong, JT is the best of the best, but as long as Cronk is there pulling the strings I think QLD can cover him. Scott, on the other hand, is the forward leader and made of pure inspiration.

I'd go:

1. Tedesco
2. Turbo
3. Hayne
4. Walker
5. Fergo
6. Moylan/Maloney
7. Maloney/Townsend
8. Boyd
9. Peats/McInnes (McIness would be my preference but could go either way)
10. Fifita
11. Cordner
12. Friz/Graham
13. Friz/Graham

14. Bird
15. Vaughan
16. Klemmer
17. J.Turbo/De Belin

Obviously the halves combo is either Moylan/Maloney or Maloney/Townsend. Big fan of McIness and De Belin, but I'm not sure if that's just Dragons bias. IMO JDB is built purely for origin with a great mix of hard running and ball skills, with great defensive technique and numbers. But Turbo being in the Aus team gives him the spot, and that's ok too.

McInnes may not take a scoot every set, but his service is fast and accurate, defense is killer and he controls the ruck well. He's a smart hooker and will be there eventually.

It's pretty clear that the players have realised that getting into the NSW team has nothing to do with form, otherwise they would have been lining up to play city/country.

The bullshit mentality of picking players who are hopelessly out of form (Farah, Jennings. Tamou) has worked its way into the minds of the players. They all know that playing well is pointless in terms of origin selection.

Besides the abandoning the country issue, it has robbed us of seeing meaningful matchups for selection, and what used to be a great buildup to origin.

You could see johns and kimmorley lining up against Fittler and Gower. Or Buderus vs priddis. The selectors already had some idea who they wanted, but when a player played out of their skin it was noticed.

That city country match could have had cordner and frizzel versus graham and Jackson

Dugan and leilua vs Jennings and walker.

Pearce and Moylan vs Maloney and bird

Etc.

Jobs for the boys has weakened NSW. We aren't QLD. Pick and stick doesn't work for us. We need to be rewarding talent and blokes that are putting their hand up. Not the Robbie f**king Farahs of this world.

Another team by me after watching the rep round this past weekend:

1. Jarryd Hayne (Probably should have played for City at fullback allowing Moylan to 6 and Cartwright into the second row but going off his past two games for the Titans he's worth the risk)

2. Tom Trbojevic (Liked what Addo-Carr offered for City but didn't play well enough to replace Tom Trbojevic in my mind)

3. Michael Jennings (With Josh Dugan hurt my original choice of Dylan Walker here is replaced by Jennings. Haven't watched much of Parra but heard he's been a stand out and he offers good experience)

4. Dylan Walker (Dugan is hurt but luckily we have Walker who is playing really well for Manly. If Dugan is available I'd pick him)

5. Blake Ferguson (Played well for Australia, scored a try and ran for the most metres out of anyone on the night)

6. James Maloney (Really our only option)

7. Mitchell Pearce (Again, really our only option unless we want to use Adam Reynolds or Trent Hodkinson which would be disastrous)

8. David Klemmer (He did well for Australia and deserves to be Woods' replacement. Won't let anyone down)

9. Cameron McInness (I heard during the City Vs Country clash that he's made the most tackles this year, he looked good from Hooker and he's been decent in attack for the Dragons this year. Definitely a better option than the alternatives such as Farah and Cook)

10. Andrew Fifita (Much like Klemmer he did well for Australia and won't let anyone down)

11. Boyd Cordner (C) (He gets the captaincy not because he's a Rooster but because he's really the only option unless you give it to Hayne. Played well for Australia, always is good for NSW and should probably have this spot for at least another 7-8 Origin series')

12. Josh Jackson (I'd personally prefer Wade Graham but he was one of our best last year, is a good tackler and with this lineup good defence is what we really need because our halves don't have 18+ points in them)

13. Jack De Belin (Merrin was very very average for Australia and didn't offer much at all. De Belin looked very dangerous for Country, many quality offloads, ran for 150 metres and made 31 tackles in just 54 minutes in what was a pretty tight game. Merrin missed 7 tackles and made 78 metres in a 48 minute stint in which Australia was killing New Zealand. Stats don't lie, Pick De Belin)

14. Shannon Boyd (Apparently he's set to return in a week or two for Canberra giving him 1-2 warm up matches before going into camp. He runs hard, was good enough for Australia and at 120 Kilograms is a monster. Easy choice)

15. James Tamou (Need some experience on the bench and he played really well for City apart from a mistake or two. He makes it but I think for game 2 when Woods returns he should lose his spot to David Klemmer)

16. Tyson Frizell (Came on for Australia, scored a try, ran for 104 metres and made 22 tackles without missing one. Add to the fact that he was pretty great for NSW last year and you have a man who should regain his spot)

17. Wade Graham (Matt Moylan wasn't impressive enough for City. Made a few half breaks and looked dangerous in spurts but I really expected him to put his hand up and he didn't. Graham was good last year and has been good for the Sharks this year and he can also fill pretty much any position. Without injury he'd be a good 30 minute player to replace someone in the backline and maybe get something going)

---

I think that team could really trouble Queensland especially since QLD is missing Inglis, Scott and Thurston. Would love to see De Belin getting handy offloads away to support players whilst Klemmer and Fifita bash QLD.

Man none of you think like Laurie..

Think City Country.

Who did not get picked?

I start with Graham, lock him in.

Tamou (who played) looked good lock him in.

All the Aussie players will get a gig.

Only Gallen and Mansour need replacing for Laurie.

Farah, I expect to get a gig, this is where QLD get us, we should pick Brailey, as good as Cameron Smith same age, will not get the chance to play 50 games.

Check most origin games doubt we have many at the top, we say "not ready for origin" they say go for young man.

Who is a stat man, tell me most origin games?

Bet QLDers top the list by plenty. This is where we fail.

Wanted to play in the 6 but was picked at 1. I suspect the selectors had already made their minds up on the halves and didn't want complications at this late stage.

Anyway, I agree with one thing. He shouldn't make the side anywhere but 6 and that's already decided.

Personally I think he was playing for a bench spot. He's not a halves option for us with Maloney/Pearce most likely getting the nod and he has both Hayne and Tedesco in front of him at fullback. He would have had a 50/50 chance (Between him and Graham) for the utility bench spot but he was only slightly above average in a City team that did pretty well.

As for the guys saying Hayne to centre that may be where he lines up but personally Hayne at his best is better than Tedesco at his best. I also remember many years where Hayne would play wing or centre and NSW would never win but when he finally played his preferred position we did.

Don't move Hayne from the number 1, if Tedesco is an absolute MUST maybe he could take the left wing spot but I don't see them doing that. I obviously hold nothing against Tedesco since he's a Rooster next year but I believe in Hayne in a big way.

picking a bloke like mcinnes who has only played well in a handful of matches is so typical of NSW. and each series, the revolving door continues. you would hope that someone being considered this year was at least on the radar last year, or playing well towards the end of the year. mcinnes was neither.

but the lack of any stand out acting half could work in his favour. the alternative route for Daley is too opt for a known known - farah.

Tedesco is the #1 FB in NSW.

I'd have Hayne there, but rather than centre, I'd have him as the left wing where he'll still have the opportunity to bring the ball back in space. It is going to be imperative for NSW middle third to put a stop to any roll on of the QLD equivalent. Succeeding in this will put more pressure on Cronk's kicking game. A back 3 of Ferguson (RW and a lock for the position), Tedesco (FB), and Hayne (LW) is fairly f**king formidable in bringing the ball back out on kick returns.

Hayne will adapt better to LW than Tedesco

Imo you need both of them in the team and with that being said

Tedesco is either #1 or not in the team

Jayne can play wing, centre and still be as effective. I can't see that transitioning for Tedesco at all

And Tedescos form is still red hot anyway, played in the winning team last year so I think he has more of a hold on the #1 jersey than Hayne

I'd say that's the opposite of NSW problem. Usually, the newer blokes they bring in do quite well - last year Friz, Bird, Moylan, Graham all stood out. It's the recycled planks like Woods, Tamou, Farah, Pearce who destroy it for us. The problem is that the coaching staff over complicate their selections, prioritising things like Origin experience (even in a badly beaten team) people who've played together at club level and intangible shit like "he's got passion" instead of picking the best players.

No way will mansour be fit and firing for origin. Teams get selected in like 2 weeks

Maybe game 3 if it's a dead rubber

Actually there's many reasons

Depends how his recovery is

Personally I don't think he'll be at his best by then, acl's take ages

Match fitnes
Confidence
Speed
Evasiveness

Probably won't be the same it was this time last year when he was one of the form wingers in the comp

1. Tedesco
2. Hayne
3. Walker
4. Bird
5. Ferguson / Trobjevic (would prefer trobjevic here but agree Ferg will get picked)
6. Moylan
7. Maloney
8. Klemmer
9. McInnis/Peats/Wallace anyone but Farah its time to move on. Pretty thin here though. Peats or McInnis with an eye to the future
10. Fifita
11. Cordner (c)
12. Frizzell
13. Trobjevic

14. Graham
15. Merrin
16. Boyd
17. Mclean

Just Some Notes

- Assuming a Teddy Hayne Fergo back three we will have really good metres coming out of our own end
- QLD as going to be pretty thin in the forwards and that pack + bench can really hurt them with size, skill, footwork and offloads
- Time to move on from Farah Pearce Tamou and to a lesser extent Jennings, Jackson and Brett Morris who would still not look completely out of place. in fact if Hayne looks fat and disinterested BMoz could definitely slot straight back in on that wing.
-- if you wanted a utility on the bench id be looking at a Blake Austin type. someone with good football instincts who runs the ball well. No doubt our selectors will go for a completely f**king useless selection a la walker Idris Jmoz though
- Merrin is a tough one I don't think his form has been as bad as everyone seems to think especially in a team no going very well. What do they say though? Form is temporary Class is permanent.
- Would also be happy with JDB or Vaughn on that bench
- Assuming Dugan is Injured
- In my mind there's really no other options in the halves that don't involve Pearce. Maybe Bird at 5/8 to squeeze Dugan in with Moylan missing out? f**ks me

In conclusion there's 70 different possible combinations hedged multiple ways.. ha-ha
