he hasn't really tbh. his workrate has been very average (and that's being polite about it). b. smith seems to be using him for very specific and specialised purposes at the moment... but geez he's a lazy big unit sometimes. in the roosters match where he scored that excellent try i'm pretty sure he only made 2 or 3 hitups.

Kite's consistent. Steve Price has got no mongrel but was indispensable at Origin level because of his work rate. He'd be a good cornerstone of the pack.

lawrence is a decent youngster with potential. but he is a speedbump in defence. if he was selected marking falou & co, by the fulltime siren he'd have tread marks up & down his body & the scoreboard would be broken.

Gaz, Coops, Hayne and Quinn are going to have their work cut out for them trying to contain that QLD backline. They better get their $hit together and learn to communicate in defence or its going to be a looooooooooooooong night for them.

the communication point is HUGE.

cooper is the best left centre in the game, but he's basically got no competition, so despite his form, he's there by default.

the weak link defensively is gaz. he shows his opposite the outside then uses his pace to tackle from the side or behind. nsw will be murdered if he pulls that crap against the mob he's marking.

I called it after the game in Townsville vs the Cowboys last year where he dominated after Gower went off injured.

I hope he has a blinder but he has very little support in the creativity department.

Quite amazing how a bloke can 1 week be in the top 3 front rowers in Australia, yet can't make the top 2 in NSW. Guess it is all about connections, and he doesn't have the Storm ones. Heard Bellamy mention how Cross went well in City/Country, that must mean more than playing a very good game for Australia and a blinder for Manly against the then comp leaders, while his replacement has a shocker in Melbourne

At least there may be a bit of biff in the match, NSW contains guys that have been done for Eye Gouging, Elbowing, Face Raking, Kneeing in the head

I think thats the "Mongrel" that some NSW greats were saying the team needed last year. Seemed to work well in game 3.

overall: fairly happy with the side, should go much better than everyone is giving us credit for. I assume that Hornby will be used at 5/8 and Bird will shuffle back into the forwards.

I'd add to that - Petero imo is the most consistent player in the competition this season not just prop forward.

after nsw get flogged in the first game we can bring in Lyon, Orford and Kite and we'll have a chance in the second game,
