NSWelshman deserving of Australian Selection

Form from 3+ months ago in Origin won't count too greatly come the end of the year, but we'll still see Queensland dominate the backline. Slater, Inglis, Lockyer, Thurston are automatic selections, as are 70 Cent, Thaiday, and Smith in the forwards. Morris is probably the only automatic selection from NSW. If Boyd's club form continues, I'd back him to be picked ahead of Hayne on the other wing. There is one centre spot open, which Tonga would have to be the front-runner for at this stage (assuming no Israel), though the Cowboys (mis)fortunes may affect that, as may the return of Hodges and Gasnier. In the forwards, Hannant would be clear favourite for the other prop position, and I'd back the incumbents Weyman and Shillington for the spots on the bench. In the back row, Watmough and Myles would be the front-runners to partner Thaiday, with the other one getting the bench spot, and I'd expect the incumbent Gallen at lock if his form doesn't drop. That leaves bench utillity/back, and while I'd hope it would be Luke Lewis, something tells me Gidley will get it again. To sum up, not knowing how the rest of the season will pan out:

1. Slater
2. Morris
3. Inglis
4. Lyon/Tonga/Hodges/Gasnier
5. Boyd/Hayne
6. Lockyer (c)
7. Thurston
13. Gallen
12. Thaiday
11. Watmough/Myles
10. Civoniceva
9. Smith
8. Hannant

14. Lewis/Gidley
15. Myles/Watmough
16. Shillington
17. Weyman

That is the sort of side I would expect to see named.

edit: forgot about Lyon

Only one-eyed Parra fans would say Hindmarsh. Same as the one-eyed Knights fans who want Gidley there. Even slightly decent Knights fans know he is not worthy.

Morris, Lewis, and possibly Watmough. That is all.

The team of Queensland is miles ahead, but there are still some NSW players worthy of selection in the Australian team. Some player's club form should be the gauge, and not Origin, because let's face it, the NSW administration and coaching staff are stuffed. With that in mind, I still respect the following NSW players:

Hayne
Morris
Weyman
Hindmarsh

... that's it.

Oh dear, Morris is fast...thats about all he has. Weyman is useless at rep level. His performance last night was sh*t. Hindmarsh has heart, is starting to get over the hill though.

And Hayne...either has a really really good game at rep level or a bad one. His past 2 havent been special.

Hayne, Morris, Lewis. I probably would not find a spot for Weyman as Petro, Shillington, Hannant and Scott performed admirably. Maybe Watmough on the bench. Assuming Lockyer is retired from test footy if they selected a team tomorrow - I think it would have to look at little like this....

1 Slater
2 Hayne
3 Hodges
4 Inglis
5 Morris
6 Thurston
7 Cronk
8 Hannant
9 Smith
10 Civoniceva
11 Thaiday
12 Myles
13 Lewis
14 Scott
15 Shillington
16 Watmough
17 A utility or if Lewis is not lock then Lewis and someone else at lock.

Really does reveal how much classier Qld is. If Lockyer not retired then Cronk gets the bench spot. Although many people here know my views on this matter.

I am Tonga's biggest fan - but we all know there would have to be some serious injuries to a lot of players before he would make the test team - Lyon, Hodges and GI are clearly ahead of him in pecking order. As for Folau - and as much I as was keen on him playing maroon - there is no way he would be selected. Other than that - very good side. Harrison over Lewis?

I didnt pick Hodges because he hasnt played a single game of footy this year and could still be out for a little while, otherwise he would be there. However i would select Tonga over Lyon. I didnt pick him over GI either, he was partnering him.

Yes, Harrison over Lewis.
