Just be careful what you say guys.

You can think what you like but please dont make yourself the judge and jury, he's been tried and found not guilty by the courts.

We dont want League Unlimited put in a position where Bird and his associates can sue us for libel, slander or defamation.

Cheers

Very true. He has had his day in court and been found NOT GUILTY. If it was a Parramatta player charged with the same offence and had been found not guilty - how would people be reacting then?
This is not about sport, it is a criminal matter dealt with under the judicial system.

I'd react the same way regardless of the verdict particularly if the "defence" resembled a pair of fishnet stockings..... if you've ever been to a sewage farm you'll find that cream isn't the only thing that rises to the top.

if all things were exactley the same except a parra player, I would expect the club to have sacked him and not be part of the club. I can not believe clubs are after Birds signature now and if Parra signed him I would definitely consider cancelling my season tickets.

No, I don't frequent sewage farms, do you?

The defence must have been effective as the conviction was quashed after the Judge heard the evidence.
To get a conviction, the offence must be proven BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT. It wasn't so irrespective of what you, me, or any one else thinks, he is NOT GUILTY.

Cronulla sacked him. He has now been proven NOT GUILTY, he is a very good player and Clubs are entitled to sign him. Can't believe Gallop has placed an embargo on him,,and I would like to see how that 'went' if it went before the courts.

Don't get me wrong, I can't stand the bloke..Just believe that it is in the past, his girl stuck by him, and he shopuld be allowed to get on with his life.

I can understand completely that he got off given our legal system ... there were only 2 witnesses to it - him and her - and if they both tell the same story, what option have you got?

doesn't mean its right tho

I don't believe anything has been "proven" or as you mentioned earlier "is not guilty", he has been "found not guilty in a court of law". Reasonable doubt does not necessarily mean innocent.

I also don't believe the NRL can stop him from playing, but he has "brought the game in disrepute" so maybe there is something there. Clubs need to be their own moral guardians and think about what headlines will do to their sponsors and fans. Cronulla and the dogs are good examples how quickly sponsors can abandon you if the press take a dislike to you.

Would the offence be on his record? How has he brought the game into disrepute when he has been found NOT GUILTY?

no wonder the people of Hay are considered by you to be all good people as you seem to put your head in the sand easily.

So you haven't seen any bad press over the last year regarding this incident to bring the game into disrepute? Maybe if he was to have explained "this version" of events when it happened instead of blaming others (still is anyway) things would not have been played out across the media.

no matter what the outcome of the charge - he was still in a brawl with his chick and she ended up with a fractured eye socket .... not a good look no matter what the "story" is

Lying to his club in regards to what exactly happened, the ongoing bad publicity that the Cronulla club and its sponsors have received, pointing the finger at his mate when he wasn't even involved.....

Just because the initial charge has been quashed doesn't mean that what he has done in leading up to that happening all gets forgotten.

Astonishing how these merkins (Bird & Inglis) can justify punching/glassing a woman in self defence.

Not putting my head in the sand. Just putting it all into perspective. AND most people out here are very good people by the way. The town has one of the lowest crime rate in NSW of any country town http://www.bocsar.nsw.gov.au/lawlink/bocsar/ll_bocsar.nsf/vwFiles/HayLGA.pdf/$file/HayLGA.pdf

AND Greg Bird is not from HAY....

If you KNOW he is guilty (apart from what you read in the Press) go tell it to the lawmakers. OR better still post it on here with your full contact details so he can hit you with a defamation action.

I can see what is going to happen in this thread...I am going to be slammed from pillar to post because I have a view different to the 'flow'.

I hope that I never run into a glass that I have broken, to try to hurt someone with - it all sounds to complex to me! As for snorting my anti-depressants??

Surely the outcome of this should have been, that the young lady should be given some intense therapy? Sounds like she was and could possibly still be, willing to do some serious harm to herself.

(My true feelings are - the cops have done a botched job at getting things stated & signed at the time. They are the ones that people should be directing their anger at)
