I thought the SMH accusation was that he wrote favourable articles for Hayson in return for $$$ ? Has this been dealt with ?
Sweep sweep, awesome that means the drunken Betroot faced slob will be back bagging the shit out of RL again. What else would you expect from a Murdoch owned rag??

From the SMH article:

Rothfield said he had been cleared by a News Corp investigation, which analysed his TAB betting account and "every article published about Eddie by me and other writers over the last 10 years".

"The investigation found my journalism and reporting has not been compromised by my relationship with Eddie and I did not receive gifts from him," he wrote.

I'm glad they wrapped up that investigation with no adverse findings just prior to the start of the finals.

Don't like the Telegraph, but I have plenty of time for Nick Walshaw and Phil Rothfield..Both are good blokes...

I also know them quite well. Very well in fact. I know this because I have met them several times. On those several ocassions I have regularly spoken to them at length which is how I know them quite well.

Not sure if I am allowed to put this here, however there was speculation initially surrounding Hayson. Allegations of course. I hold no opinion of who did what or ever, Your Honour.

Dozens of NRL players to be interviewed in police match-fixing investigation

Dozens of NRL players are expected to be questioned after the NSW Police Force announced it has launched an investigation following a review of information into reported cheating at gambling and match-fixing in the competition.

Police have launched a Strike Force to investigate possible match-fixing after months of speculation that up to three games may have been fixed.

In June, the State Crime Command's Organised Crime Squad said they were "in the early stages of examining information" relating to the matches.

On Wednesday, they announced detectives from the Squad had now formed Strike Force Nuralda.

It's understood there was enough information to warrant forming a formal operation to look at whether charges can be laid.

According to a statement: "Police will work closely with the NSW Crime Commission, and have the full support of the NRL. The investigation is expected to be protracted, with dozens of players, officials, and members of the community expected to be interviewed in the coming months."

Police will work with the NSW Crime Commission, a highly secretive body that has the power to force people to answer questions.

The Crime Commission can forcefully summons a person to participate in an "examination hearing". Refusing to answer questions from the Crime Commission is a criminal offence.

Pledging full co-operation: NRL CEO Todd Greenberg. Photo: Brendon Thorne
NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg said the NRL would support and provide any assistance requested by the investigation.

Greenberg said there was no place in the game for any person found to be involved in match fixing.

"We are not going to pre-judge any person associated with the game while this process is under way," he said.

"But I repeat my earlier warning that if any person is convicted of match fixing they will face a life ban from any involvement in Rugby League."

Fairfax Media has previously reported suspicions involving matches between South Sydney, Manly and Parramatta from last season as well as another game from April in 2016 at Brookvale Oval between the Sea Eagles and Eels.

If they are looking into inconsistent behavior and form that effects match outcomes... I wonder if they will look into the Match Review committee, Refereeing and selective salary cap enforcement or is it just the players?
