O/T: If the Roosters sack Carney...

Cheating aside I reckon Melbourne would be a great environment for him...but yeah, I can't see his career really going anywhere further unless a club like that takes a punt on him
Yes Melbourne would be ideal. Too many pubs and clubs in Canberra and Sydney.
at least he would be under the radar there carney could be arrested taking a piss naked in the middle of federation square & i guarantee no melbourne paper would pick up the story

Anywhere but the Eels he can go. Great player but causes trouble where ever he goes, comes a time when a player has had enough chances and should be cut loose.

I think you will find that he already has screwed himself.
It is sad that a boy with so much talent is an empty head..

No sympathy from me. He screwed Canberra, now he's screwing the Roosters. Piss him off. Rip up his contract, I say. He's a waste of space. Give his contract to someone who has earned it.

Harsh. Carney is dumb, but both the Raiders and Roosters have got what they deserved for mismanaging him IMO. He should be carefully nurtured by experienced players, not allowed to head out with rocket surgeons like Anthony Watts and Nate Myles. His team mates should know better as well.

Obviously he has to shoulder the majority of the blame, but this could certainly have been avoided by either club.

Fair points.

I'm just sick of numbuts like Carney acting like imbeciles and giving people the impression that the sport is in disarray. He's a talent, and he should have had more help. But then he should know better, too - surely he has enough common sense to realise he's on his last chance by now?

Seriously, though - he didn't do anything illegal, but he should know better by now, surely...

The problem isn't just Carney, it's the structure of rugby league and the lack of education to emerging players coming through the system. Sure they get taught how to become better footballers, but it's just as imperative that they get taught how to become better people too.

Now I don't want to detract away from the work that blokes like Nigel Vagana and Hazem El Masri have been doing with the youth coming through (and they have been doing a great job) but it's clear that it is not enough. The youth is not enough, current NRL/senior squads should have to go through them regularly too because they came through the same flawed system.

If you say something enough times to someone eventually they'll believe it's true. How about the NRL gets more proactive, instead of having to be reactive all the time. I hope this is an issue that the IC looks at seriously because it is (and has been for a long time) affecting our game and it's marketability. Repeated offences of guys like Carney is what holds the game back, particularly in the corporate world which has so much potential to help grow and expand rugby league further.

Cop out, he has had all the education in the world. Made his own bed.

Of course autonomy and responsibility is on Todd. You're missing the major point, be proactive...stop it from happening in the future because it will continue to happen under the current system and I mean within the wider rugby league community, not Todd Carney.
