McGregor is a bit deluded about that stuff. Remember when he came out of retirement as a 34 year old for one final crappy season in 2001?

No! I must have buried that in my "never to be remembered" part of my brain - same place 2012-2016 will be kept.

Glad to see that Mitch is finally being cut loose.

Tries very hard. First rate defender.

Poor kicking game. Average to mediocre ball distribution.

Zero ability to read what is in front of him. This is where he is of no use to our club. We need a player with football smarts.

We need to look at agile and skilful 9s that give good service and can play 80 minutes. Seggy is the only hooker that fits those requirements.

I like Seggy but Kurt Baptiste has all of these skills and imo is a better defender and potentially better organiser than Seggy.

In an earlier post the question was asked:

Why would baptiste leave a successful team?

First choice, first grade position.

Starting hooker role. (Looks fit enough to play 80 if needed)

More minutes.

More money.

If Rein goes to Newcastle absolutely expect him to improve. Brown was a prodigy at hooker and given a decent attacking structure, made fully aware of his role and an offseason of an astute coach putting him through skill drills and he will be a great hooker.

We will probably look back in 3-4 years and complain that we let him go lol

Maybe he isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

No maybe about it. If you have one contract on the table you sign the damn thing. How did he think he could play hardball with zero leverage?

Rein and Marshall have found out the hard way that beggars can't be choosers.

Theoretically there's only 3 hookers (who are uncontracted) worth any note.
Not in any order:
1. Segeyaro
2. Baptiste
3. Kostjaysen

Others to be considered would need a release wether asked or forced.
1. McInnes
2. Parcell
3. Cook

If Parcell becomes available he should be the first choice.
Not sold on Segeyaro, yes he can be a game changer but I worry wether his "demons" have been resolved and back in the spotlight they may resurface.
Baptiste is a solid player wont do much wrong and was a 5/8 in his younger years. Kicking game his issue
Kostjayson is a good player but I don't think could lead a team around for a full game or season.
Not interested in McInnes hasn't shown anything that would get you excited about his future.
Cook at his 3rd club I believe so that telks me something.
Oh, I forgot Hastings mmmmm no told us to f@#k off so to me the feeling mutual.
In summary my top 3 choices would be:
1. Parcell
2. Baptiste
3. Segeyaro

Remember we also have Havili (if he doesn't get punted after his court case).
Robson is a little too young for a season in 1sts.
Is Coster someone we could look at if all else fails?

There are many more pieces of the puzzle to fall into place once Farah signs with another club. Players will be released and the merry-go-round will be in motion but unfortunately history shows our club will miss out on the best option and end up picking up the unwanted scraps. Hell we might even end up putting Rein's contract back on the table.

What I would like to see is Leilua get some decent game time. Play some decent minutes. I really hope we can keep him but I worry we won't.

Realistically who is going to offer Rein more money? Only the sharks really I would expect as the others all have hookers. Although not sure about Newcastle.

I don't mind if we re-sign Marketo but depends what we offer him. I don't expect he will be flooded with offers from others. And he is a decent enough fringe first grader. Remember you can't afford a team of superstars and from what I have seen he at least puts in every game. But wouldn't be a priority as far as I am concerned. What about others like Wil Mathews? Whilst he is good defensively he lacks any kind of punch taking the ball forward.

Ray Thompson is the man they will end up with. Gould has pretty much told everyone to keep away from Segy as Saints were very kean until that.

Last I heard Parra were kean and seeing his best mate Corey Norman is there I can't see him not ending up there.

If they get Ray Thompson and can snag Cook that would be great cover. Replace Haviili and Rein.

Unsure what Havili did wrong in his stints on the field to be discarded by Mary

Good passer of the ball, played well from dummy half

Robust, solid defender

Ran the ball with aggression in the role of a prop

Only flaw would be no kicking game

Could easily have got more time from bench rotation

I think the issue was he was never fully fit and his line speed in defence dropped off quite quickly.

What right does Gould have telling people to stay away from Seggy? They released him, and players should be given the chance to turn their lives around. To tell people to stay away from him is so unprofessional.
In relation to Seggy going to the Eels, I doubt they'll reunite Seggy and Norman after all the trouble they got into together. I'm surprised the Tigers haven't made a play for him considering they pretty much won't have a hooker next year.

Ray Thompson is a dud. We need Segeyaro, he should be our priority, end of story.

His fitness levels were no way near up to scratch.

They better have a proper Hooker either signed up or in final stages to sign, a Marketo or manufactured 9 will only make matters worse next year?

If the club signs that McInnes from the bunnies then we are in real trouble as he's no improvement at all. His nickname should be Opium as he plays like slow moving dope!!! He is a downgrade on Rein and we are probably better served with McCrone and Marketo then sign more junk to stockpile.

If Mary and the current recruitment team are the decision-makers, we'll end up with squat.

If a new coach and recruitment team are the decision-makers however...

Havili is a viable option IMO.

Great service out of dummy half.
Cool, calm and collected when playing (as opposed to Rein who is rushed and erratic)
Big body, strong defender.

Stand out performances for the cutters as well.

We will need a bench hooker though.
