FMD they drop Noddy one of the few NSW players to have actually won a series and replace him with Pearce who's only origin experience is losing a series decider. Might as well not turn up and save the embarassment.

Beau Scott won't let anyone down. He's an ideal origin player. Qld had a sh*t side in 1995 and won the series 3-0. Remember they won the first game 2-0. You start off by picking a side that is defensively sound then you worry about scoring points. Scott is top shelf as a defender and is a powerful runner who can offload.
He'll do a good job.

Gidley got players player in Game I
Is that like the awards they give out to the special kids.

FFS, how come the only people that can't see how ordinary this guy is are the people who matter.

Beau Scott - Why would NSW selectors pick a lumbering centre is essentially a second rower? To stop Inglis? I doubt that is their whole intention. This may smack of giving the NSW selectors too much credit but I believe it is a move for Game III or next year.

If Scott performs and doesn't have a shocker - and does a Paul Bowman game in defense - what selection option does this then open up for NSW for future games most likely next season?

Every Saints fan can answer this question. I'll give you a clue - Barrett is very unlikely to be playing rep footy next year.

You wouldn't have had Lockyer without Carroll in his early days at five eigth. At least one little bloke will be cheering Beau Scott on if he plays.

If I have the NSW selectors thinking right - it is a move of intelligence. Blood one the blaster in now and select the master later. I am a Qld fan - but even I've been wondering how the little bloke would go....... That is forward thinking.... at last..... or I could be giving the idiots too much credibility.

The only way for nsw to score points is not to have pearce at halfback , gidley and Barrett are the only halves what at least gives nsw a chance to score points.

Pearce isnt creative enough to get points

I hope NSW goes for the suicide move and put pearce at halfback , end of Bellamy surely

Id swear your that gibberer Adrian Rovere sometimes, you both sprout the same clueless views.

Danish, Timmah must used to watching the Bulldogs circa 2010...14 points is quite a lot for them.

Jennings being a "poor" defender is a myth. People automatically assume because he's a flashy, attacking style of player that he can't tackle. It is unfair. While his defense is not first class, it's not so bad he should be overlooked for an average, glorified back rower playing centre - the kind of player who would not even dare be mentioned for Origin if he wasn't wearing the Red V.

Jennings didn't seem to look out of place defensively in Origin last year last time I checked?

He cant tackle Inglis, thats why he is overlooked.

NSW don't have a terrible problem scoring points, defence is the bigger concern. Scott's a defensive centre specialist.

Beau Scott has made the most tackles of any centre in the NRL. Guess who is number 2, Chris Lawrence.

Beau Scott - 205 tackles, 19 missed, 25 ineffective, 20.5 tackles/game
Chris Lawrence - 196 tackles, 22 missed, 13 ineffective, 16.3 tackles/game

There is a fair bit between Chris and the next guy. So Beau seems to be a more consistent tackler, but you can hardly suggest that Chris is poor, in fact, stats call him one of the best defensive centres in the NRL this year. So let's compare their attack.

Beau Scott:
10 games, 1 try, 1 linebreak, 23 offloads, 23 tackle breaks, 9.8 runs/game, 79.1 metres/game.

Chris Lawrence:
12 games, 8 tries, 7 linebreaks, 5 offloads, 28 tackle breaks, 9.9 runs/game, 86.6 metres/game.

Beau has the most offloads of any centre in the league, his stats read like a backrowers. They really pale in comparison to the attacking stats (offloads aside) of Lawrence.

So basically, Scott is a slightly better defender, but a non existent attacking option. Wouldn't you rather the player with both attacking and defensive strengths?

Just for a variable. The other big name NSW centres are as follows.

Matt Cooper:
9 games, 9 tries, 7 linebreaks, 31 tackle breaks, 10.9 runs/game, 95.1 metres/game, 18.9 tackles/game (deserves his spot)

Timana Tahu:
11 games, 4 tries, 4 linebreaks, 22 tackle breaks, 9.5 runs/game, 71.7 metres/game, 15.2 tackles/game (doesn't seem to have the impact of the other nominees, in either defense OR attack)

Josh Morris:
11 games, 8 tries, 10 linebreaks, 35 tackle breaks, 9.6 runs/game, 88.5 metres/game, 14.5 tackles/game (better than Tahu, equal to the other options in attack, not in defense)

Michael Jennings:
12 games, 7 tries, 5 linebreaks, 56 tackle breaks, 11.2 runs/game, 103.2 metres/game, 13.3 tackles/game (the best attacking centre in NSW, not a noted tackler, but not poor either)

Beau Champion: (before tonights game)
11 games, 12 tries, 9 linebreaks, 22 tackle breaks, 8.3 runs/game, 81.5 metres/game, 12.8 tackles/game (getting to the tryline frequently makes him seem a bit better than he is, still not the worst option of our top line centres)

Jamie Lyon:
10 games, 5 tries, 7 linebreaks, 31 tackle breaks, 7.6 runs/game, 65.5 metres/game, 13 tackles/game (the few big plays he makes give him the illusion of superstardom, the truth is he IS a superstar and the low stats are as a result of him being given the opportunity to inject himself at opportune moments, has the most try assists of any centre in the league, his reputation as a defensive centre are unwarranted however)

Jamal Idris:
11 games, 5 tries, 6 linebreaks, 68 tackle breaks, 12.2 runs, 108.2 metres/game, 11.1 tackles/game (his critics are really for the most part unwarranted, his main issue is his ineffective tackles, he has more ineffective tackles than any centre in the league and ranks highly in missed tackles, his tackle breaking and metre eating is second to none though)

Just for posterity really. Reading these stats has changed my tune quite a bit regarding Jamal Idris, maybe having him come off the bench isn't the worst idea, especially if their plan comes good. Cooper certainly deserves his spot but Tahu does not. Lyon shouldn't really be a given either. In my opinion the top three centres NSW have (and I'm surprised these stats have given me this indication) are Cooper, Lawrence and Idris.

there is hope Gidley may not be there but currently Daley is sucking his dick on MNF

There's no hope at all.

Of the 21 players named, he is the only guy 100% certain of pulling on a sky blue jersey on Weds week - they named him captain again.....

Oh and good thing they bumped the number of centers back up to 4. In a 21 man squad there are 4 centers, 3 fullbacks and only 3 props

What the heck is wrong with these selectors? Do we get new ones for game 3 once we lose this one?
And a new coach too please. Some people who won't pick 'give me the ball' Gidley.

As a Qld what I don't get is why some players need to have years of form to get a chance only to have 1 average to poor game (in a average to poor team) and is seeming marked never to play again while others get an arm chair ride into the team and are then classed as guarenteed selections. I'm thinking of Jennings, Campese and Morris as the former and Creagh, White and Idris as the latter.

If you were to pick the team on form and statistics together:

1. Jarryd Hayne or Josh Dugan
2. Akuila Uate or Jarryd Hayne
3. Beau Champion or Joel Thompson
4. Josh Morris
5. Brett Morris
6. John Sutton
7. Luke Walsh or Mitchell Pearce
8. Luke Douglas
9. Robbie Farah
10. Kade Snowden
11. Paul Gallen
12. Chris Heighington
13. Luke O'Donnell

14. Luke Lewis
15.
16.
17.

15 would be a choice between proven linebreakers in the past who probably aren't in the best of form this year (Watmough or Creagh), or newly emerging linebreaking forwards this year (Aubusson or Thompson). 16 and 17 would be a toss up between Tim Mannah, Tim Grant, Michael Weyman, Bryce Gibbs, Aiden Tolman and Brent Kite.

Michael Ennis is way down on form this year, and with NSW's lack of options, Farah is the only other man to go to. Same with the halfback situation - two raw players, one is a kick-happy organizer, the other is a more nippy running halfback.

How is the selection of Hindmarsh, King, White, Cooper and Barrett going to help us in any way moving forward? Waterhouse can't aim up at Origin level either...and Idris is the Australian equivalent of Shaun Kenny-Dowall - big strapping centre who is clueless when it comes to fundamentals like tackling and catching.

LMAO @ the armchair experts bagging Beau Scott. You muppets ever consider that Idris imay wellt start in the centres with Scott on the bench. Or if Scott starts he reverts to 2nd when Idris comes on.
