Official Round 1 Teams

yeah, terrible looking team on paper, but i like their forward pack (aside from millington).

I agree, but when those blokes go off, they've got one quality forward, one meh forward and two little blokes to replace them with.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the Sharks backline, on paper, is the worst in the NRL.

i think bests best form is already past him... merritt i definitely rate, great player. wesser is definitely past it. i've never taken much notice of talanoa, so he's a bit of an unknown quantity to me personally. he's certainly never stood out to me, though. he's probably not below par, but he wouldn't be above it either. champion is just ordinary, really.

merritt would walk into any team in the comp on the wing just about though, you are correct.

in all honesty though, i would expect your backline to score a great deal of tries behind that pack. scott minto would probably look a million bucks behind those blokes... so it probably wont affect souths too much. once again it all really depends on what their halves do.

I'm an Eels fan. I do have a fondness for the Bunnies, since they were my late father's team, though.

Best killed it in 2008 and just never got an opportunity in 2009. I saw one good ball thrown to him (by Wing) and he scored. Strong defender too.

Talanoa's hands let him down a bit, but he is a strong runner of the ball. Not in the Grothe, Tuiaki, and similar's league, but his kick returns are powerful. He has gotten better at finding the tryline too.

I hope Wesser can do it one more time ... but I wouldn't be too upset if the back line looked like this -
1. Merritt
2. Simpson
3. Best
4. ???
5. Talanoa

Simpson is a good kid. Plenty of pace and strength ... just lacking a bit in height.

it's certainly not the worst backline in the comp, i'll give it that... but it would be in the lower-middle tier i would think. i would take a great many backlines over it.

if best rediscovers his '08 form then it will look a fair bit better... but you really need to have 2 quality centres to be anywhere near some of the better backlines in the comp.

he can pay backrow too, who is milington?
couldn't even start over him
Millington is a quality backrower, hard-working but can offload too.

Nowhere as good as the better second rowers out there like Creagh, Watmough etc, but he is good enough to be a starting second rower in a number of teams I would assume.

Think his stats last season were roughly around 28 tackles, 10 hitups per game.

not too bad, sounds like a pretty decent bread and butter type second rower.

i do definitely rate the sharks forward pack... but they're still going to struggle to score points with that backline i think.

can't wait until the season starts and all my opinions are thrown completely out the window.

And the correct teams, unlike Fox who still has the incorrect Eels side up, and missing sides all over the place....
I try. :ls:

In all seriousness though, if someone finds an error I'm happy to correct it, places like FOX Sports wouldn't know any better.

It might be that Ricky just wants at least one quality to bring on from the bench.

Cuthbertson is a good player and might be better utilised as an impact player. It's a team sport, after all.

I don't think being on the bench is much of a sleight in today's game. Moi Moi often comes on from the bench. Nothing wrong with it.

If he left Manly based on that, he's a goose.

Cordoba is a powder puff ... Ricky will obviously look to Snowden and Douglas to play a lot of minutes methinks.

Fox, in their infinite journalistic integrity, took that side from another forum (unsourced) before the official side was announced....

you're definitely right about that. Richie Fa'aoso was immense for the knights last year... and probably close to our second best forward behind Zeb Taia... but his role is from the bench, where he can come on and use his power game for impact, rather than doing all the hard stuff.

specialist benchies are becoming quite common and useful.

Souths have a couple of young blokes coming through in the backline, who I expect to get a run later in the year and never look back.

Junior Vai Vai and Kane Morgan.

Remember the names, especially Morgan. Imo that kid is going to hit the scene in a big way when he gets the call up.

Both of them were top tryscorers in the NYC last year. Vai Vai is a big powerful centre, who reminds me of a young Justin Hodges and Morgan is an explosive winger / centre who has a tonne of pace. Both of them really know how to find the try line. Mark my words when I say that at least one if not both of these two kids is destined for a stellar career.

A rabbitohs supporter talking about other teams and their chances of the spoon? f**k, I've heard it all now.

Love the fact that some of you nufties commenting don't even know who Milo is, or what he did lsat year but want to assume he is sh*t. You obviously watch one game of footy a week, being your own team, and have your head so far up your arse you have no idea about football or the ability of other teams players.

Millington last year was not only a toiler, but scored some very good, strong trys running over the top of other players.

Its round one, anyone talking about "crap looking teams" is going to be looking a wanker come round 14.

Bring on the footy.
