All to easy for the Mounties halfback on this occasion. Faced with a retreating defence on their own goal line he decides to run on the last and with a simple left foot step he is able to find the try line.

It was well composed but it was entertaining to watch as Wenty go 70m to score in a play that featured offloads, long passes and a grubber kick.

The conversion is nailed from out wide.

Looked like a fortuitous call there as Sio looks to have lost the ball but the ref rules it a strip.

Ualesi shows some class on the right-edge movement as he holds the ball up perfectly and then links up with Sandow on the sweeping run. Sandow is now 2-on-1 against the Newtown winger and he puts Sio over untouched for the first points of the game.

Sandow adds the extras.

Wenty lead Newtown 6-0

Straight away I've noticed Sandow do a lot of talking and organising. Which I know wasn't one of his strong points last year

Ualesi looking at home on the right edge today as he finds some metres down the right edge with a cut out ball to Sio.

Wenty bomb it on the last and Morgan very nearly takes it but it is taken beautifully by Shannon Gallant before Wenty give away a penalty to take play to halfway.

Newtown earn a line drop out but look a bit shaky as they bring it back in as they drop the ball backwards twice in the set.

They bomb Sio on the last but lose the ball forwards in the contest and Wenty get a 20m restart.

Rawalui nearly creates something on the right as he pumps then passes to Morgan but Newtown just hold on.

Wenty kick it towards the left on the last but it sails too far in goals and is defused easily to bring play back to the 20m line.

Newtown pick up a penalty after that but fail to find touch as Sio gets the ball back to Rawalui. Wenty undo the good work though as they lose the ball 30m out from their line.

Great pressure from Wenty on the goal line results in an intercept to Sio. Morgan follows it with a good carry and Ualesi does well to earn a penalty.

Wenty on the attack 40m out.

Nice footy from Gorman and Gower as the half hits the backrower with a quality ball to put him through the gap and to the try line.

Sandow hits the conversion.

It was all newtown for about 10mins but we defended very well.
First time back on the attack for us we score a nice try by Gower.

Great set from Wenty from the kick off with excellent gains from Junior and Faraimo.

Sandow finds the grass on the last but the roll is kind to Newtown and they work it out from their goal line.

Newtown then pick up another penalty but fail to find touch again!
