Wenty opening them up here. Nice second phase play puts Semi through a gap who links up with Mullaney. The defence catches Mullaney but from the next play Wenty spread fast down our right hand side and Harrison find Ryan who shows a bit of footwork against the scrambling defence to cross.

Conversion is no good

Wenty extend their lead to 36-22

69 minutes gone.

Api is playing his best few all year... This is a good result so far against a red hot Newcastle team.... Lets hope they bring it home.

Deft little offload from Harrison puts MacKenzie down the right hand side but he gets caught and driven towards touch. He gets away the desperation offload and there is a sloppy exchange in which Newcastle dubiously get the scrum feed.

Newcastle all over the shop on their last tackle. Good scrambling defence sees Wenty bringing it out from their own try line.

Wenty penalised for markers not standing square. Newcastle on the attack now and they cross down our left hand side with a quick blindside play.

Newcastle going a long way again in their set. Danny Howard is there to take the bomb and Wenty play it from 30 odd metres out from their line.

Nice grubber from Waters finds touch deep into Newcastle's territory. Newcastle stop the clock with a set scrum and get a penalty for Wenty breaking early.

Newcastle get a chance to attack but it should be too little too late.

Mullaney with another good one-on-one tackle as Newcastle goes straight through a gap. However, Newcastle score from a deep bomb in our in goal. The Newcastle chaser leaps high over Radradra and taps it back to another chaser who scores.

Conversion is missed.

Wenty lead 36-30

20 seconds to play.

Nathan Smith cleans up the all-or-nothing chip kick on the last play and Wenty hold on to take this one 36-30.

Pewairanghi had a monster game, although I think he has alot of work to do with his long kicking game.

Elsewhere Wenty benefited from strong games from O'Hanlon, Harrison and Edwards.

Mullaney had some good moments but his first half was not one he would like to remember. Wiliame didn't see much ball but was good in what little chances he got. MacKenzie practically got a cold out on his wing with the plethora of errors made by Wenty throughout the game.

Nathan Smith got limited game time and gave away a ruck penalty. Beyond that his service was good and he was there to close out the game in cover defence. He will probably need 1-2 games more for Wenty to get up to speed.

Peni Terepo and Semi Radradra both displayed potential but aslo highlighted the coach-killers that still plague their games.

A win is a win but Wenty could be so much better without the stupid, mind numbingly dumb mistakes that they kept making.

Anyway...on to the Holden Cup!

Edit: Also, I thought Eisenhuth had a decent game. He actually surprised me given I am not his biggest fan.

A wins a win, how strong are Newy??

There is some talent in this side but like the first's pretty dumb and full of mistakes.
