Actually at work today, chat with one of my mates he is big AFL supporter he said that we are a dying breed in that we hate other teams.
People say to him its a strong word to hate but I agreed with him you have to hate other teams.
None of this I have a 2nd team crap in Brisbane you see it they move between donkeys and lions depending who wins.
I got asked about GF my response was i hate both of the teams to me it's the lesser of two evils and that is Melbourne.
To live in Brisbane if Broncos win is like one of worst experiences you can have.

Done it - completed but it is a shit photo. I've titled this - Big Swell, Sunny Day, Cronulla 1965. Psssts it is not historically correct !!! I have slipped in a bloke running wearing an original 1967 Jersey. When you paint you can do things like that.

Being a child of the Sutherland Shire I spent a lot of time with great mates down at Cronulla Beach. It was a wonderful place to have fun and enjoy the surf.

My painting depicts Cronulla from around the year of 1965 when I was but a 10 year old pup. My main reference piece for this painting was an old post card I had acquired years ago plus some additional artistic licence.

One of our favourite experiences was to go over the back of the large rock pool and ride the backwash wave out and into the incoming breaker. We never did it when the waves were as big as in the painting of course.

With every train (known as red rattlers) that terminated at Cronulla before returning back to the city, you would witness a mass migration of beach goers heading north along the promenade. Their destination, the northern beaches, North Cronulla, Elouera and Wanda. It was always an enjoyable experience watching the passing parade.

'Big Swell, Sunny Day, Cronulla 1965' is framed, acrylic on canvas, a large painting 88cm x 58cm.

Great stuff @Quigs - the current skyline has more towers more sand in the beach, but the shape / vibe is the same. It’s either that or I’ve already coffee/swim/ coffee and there is spring tears in my eyes.
What a place. We are blessed

Couldn’t believe how small South Cronulla beach is now… was down there the other day. That lone pine tree no longer exist right on Cronulla Point either. Great memories of growing up there.

For the older farts that can remember back 60 odd years ago. This is a scan I took of the original post card which was my reference for the painting.

Just for fun and to make it more difficult I added in quite a few more people on the walkway. Also added Port Hacking and the National Park.

I guess the old house on the point is long gone now. I remember the surf mat hire thingy near the clubhouse. That is why I included the kid with the mat just near the bottom of the piece.

Question: In the postcard pic there are the circular steps heading north , are they still there.

I didn't realise that there was such a huge space between both pools and I had trouble remembering that there was curvature in the run of the path between the Ballroom and North Cronulla.. That was until I dug up and old 1955 photo which clarified my diluted memory.

I am full of kulchar. I'll show youse another recent one. This one has the longest title in the world, it is called .............. "wait for it" .............. it is ....... "Just think about it, 2 trillion galaxies (estimated) each with billions of Stars, each with planets and moons. And, out of all our universe God sent his ONLY SON to our planet earth to die for our sins"
earth-god-x800.jpg

It put the cat amongst the pigeons with a lot down at the local gallery. But it was the fastest one I've ever sold.

I don’t get upset about women being on TV playing professional sport. I think that it’s great they have a thing to call their own and it’s amazing that role models for young girls are so accessible

however the quality of the NRLW and the fact that it’s a lobsided two horse race is what I have an issue with. It’s just not good.

Nor do I.

But I do feel sorry for other sports, like netball, where there is genuine grass roots support but they don't have the big dollars generated from the male counterparts to sink into promotion.
