It is not that simple. Who pays that?..on top of his next contract annual payment. And to let someome go who you need is worth more to us than just his salary we dont have to pay. Compensation in this sense is $$ over an above just his salary for the inconvenience and quest for a replacement..we have the power in this situation and should use it...only if it suits and benefits us

And by doing what you say how does that help our club get a similar like v like up and comer able replacement that is suited to our needs and desires if a said club does not have a decent swap person.
Different if Saab was overpaid an on big $$$..like a Norman if he wanted out... but surprise surprise he does not..
By terminating his contract we save salary cap for two years. Allowing us to more salary cap to recruit for 2021/2022.

By receiving compensation dollars we save money for things outside the cap. So we are compensated more than his salary cap. I'd say this is a contribution towards the develop costs the Dragons incurred.

No i haven't forgotten about the media circus. That was a result of a confidential conversation between Club and player that was leaked. Point 3 is what Gareth wanted. to play out in front of his grandparents. There was never a lack of interest in Widdop.

We are going round in circles.

If Saab want out then let his manager and Club come to an agreement and be done with it.
Bitching to the press when you have barely made it in first grade is poor.

Agree to disagree on the 2 matters being identical. .
No we are not going around in circles..you have not explained why you character challenged him or anyone in his corner without knowing all the facts
"bitching' to the press now"? OK...it is clear that is what you want to and choose to believe.

So you terminate his contract do you
What breach?
We would have to pay him compo?
How do you receive compo for terminating his contract?

Garbage.
Its HIS words in the press. Not mine.
He should deal with his desire to leave with manager and Club.

My goodness, there has been a lot of fuss about a bloke where in the limited opportunities he has had in first grade, he has been terrible. I know he has had a a solid junior career and has the physical tools to be a Daniel Tupou-like player...but he looks far from ready to me and needs a lot of lower grade footy time to get him ready for first grade....if he is cut out for it at all.

Could not agree more. Has huge potential but no one I think has said he is 1st grade standard yet and will realise that potential.
But on the limited opportunities he has had he has shown good signs and you cant realise any potential without opportunity.
Happy for any critique on his football ability and results thus far in 1st grade cause there is plenty of room for improvement but the ability is there.

I thought Jason’s 1st few games for us were his best.

Overall, I was underwhelmed by Jason probably because of the hype that had been gathering around him. Maybe the hype was just fan expectation hoping that he was the one who would live up to the hype when he played NRL. Doesn’t appear to be ‘very fast’ just acceptable for a winger. Cody Ramsey in comparison does look like he can go ‘on with it’.

Having said that our club seems to be on the nose with proven players or potential players of good NRL capacity coming on the market for various reasons. Again ‘it seems’ that Bulldogs / Titans/ Newcastle are adding quality but we are languishing.

Hoping that we can right the ship with new coaching set up? Still not holding my breath. Just being realistic because particularly our forward stocks imo look very ordinary.

Saab is requesting a release, we are not pushing him out. We terminate his contract via a letter accepting his request for a release and grant his release on the condition that ex dollars are paid to the Club.

Haha You can't be serious
Can you cite one case where a player has paid a club to leave
Saab is on one of our base contracts around 70k, how much do you suggest he pay.

Spot on and this would be where the equal player hold up is, the club wants a regular FG in return.

If Saab wants a release his manager must arrange a payout or there is no release. If it is only 70k which I doubt very much (do you have someting that says that?). I believe he signed a new contract in 2019 and surely that would have been substancially more than that. In any case, the Dragons can ask whatever they want and it is up to Saab's manager to strike a deal if they really want a release.

RED V PLAY HARDBALL OVER RISING STAR

The Jason Saab situation at St George Illawarra is similar to the Josh Addo-Carr scenario with Melbourne Storm.

Unless the Dragons can get a like for like replacement for the towering rookie speedster, the Red V won’t be releasing him.

The Saab camp have been agitating for a release since the middle of the year with the Manly Sea Eagles said to be watching the situation with interest.

Still on the Dragons and the entire Red V roster with the exception of State of Origin squad members Ben Hunt, Cameron McInnes and Zac Lomax will return to training in Wollongong next Tuesday November 17.

This will be the Red V’s first full session under new head coach Anthony Griffin and assistant coaches Matt Elliott and Peter Gentle.

Is there any circumstance where Saab stays and is made happy by our coaching staff. I imagine Manly have offered him more money so maybe provide him with the incentive to do well with an offer to match Manly's offer if he proves himself by round 13 in 2021.

I keep imagining a back 3 of Schiller, Saab and Ramsey. These 3 players I am sure Griffin and his staff can do wonders with. Not so sure about Norman and Hunt.

Sorry I cant remember Saab showing any signs of first grade ability or attitude in any performances I have seen from him.Do we now have Wonder Coaches?

Mary and his staff did so much damage. Losing good players like Frizell and keeping rubbish long term like Aitken, Lafai, Norman and Hunt.

The Saab episode reminds me very much If the Garrick and Timm treatment. I've seen Saab play very well and I'm sure that if his heart was in it he could end up being a top grade winger.

So the question is can Griffin and his staff turn him around. As with Garrick, Hasler obviously can see something he can work with in Saab.

I watched Jason play for the young Australian team (not sure if it was schoolboys or Aussie U/18's) in England (2018 I believe) and was very interested to see him play as I knew he was signed to the Dragons and had big raps on him. I was actually disappointed and didn't think he played well at all.

He scored a couple on debut in the NRL for us which was encouraging but I haven't seen much otherwise to get enthused about.

He might come good but if his heart is not with the Dragons then he's not worth keeping.

You must of missed his 1st of about only a few NRL games where he play well and scored a couple of tries.
Other games he has played he went off injured or played about as well as the rest of the team in brief opportunities he has been given. Watch him go in a good side which still might be yet St George Illawarra Dragons. We will see
