so ASADA are trying to get Essendon players off http://www.smh.com.au/afl/afl-news/...ds-wrongdoing-at-essendon-20130630-2p5eq.html

they won't be doing the same for NRL players. bet on it

Shouldn't a club found to be administering systematic doping to its players be punted from the comp for several years?

ASADA/WADA rules allow for an entire club to be stood down if a handful of players are found to be doping. Surely proof that just about every player at a club was doping should then bring on a ban?

So if ASADA use that excuse to clear essendon player then i can't see why the shark player will face any ban

That's such bullshit. How desperate are they to paint the Essingwood players as victims when they're obviously just (alleged) doping drug cheats.

From what the Essendon player said he sounded like he had been told what the suppliment was, but that it was legal. Surely if he had the name of it it wouldn;t have been hard to check? I am not sure you could argue no blame if he knew what he was taking but not if it was legal or not. Cronulla players are probably hoping Essendon set the precedent and give them escape plan, if they took anything illegal of course.

Melinda Gainsford-Taylor on WWOS yesterday said that she checked every single substance she was given with ASADA/WADA personally regardless of what she was told before taking it. So I don't think they will be able to get off by saying they were told it was legal. Opens a massive can of worms if they do. It would let a player cheat and then just claim someone else told them it was legal so they should escape punishment

People use the ignorance or "someone else told me it was ok" since it's an easy sympathetic excuse. Luckily WADA isn't as naive as the Victorians think they are

Did anyone hear AFL NSW spokesman Tim Hurley on Sky Sports Radio this morning?

He has a weekly spot on the show and his phone mysteriously cut out when pumped for an answer to the question "do you think self confessed illegal drug taker Jobe Watson should still be playing?

Only just earlier he praised the AFL's no talkies policy on the matter. Could you imagine the Sydney media praising an NRL no talkies policy on this matter?

f**k I laughed when this Hurley bloke went "hello, hello...I didn't hear the question"

He was asked again then his line dropped out. Lol

Tom Harley it is Brutus.

I thought it was a legitimate phone drop out but I can't blame you for being cynical.

I heard that.

Sounded a very convenient time for his phone to drop out IMO. I think he heard the question loud and clear.

Also, praising the AFL for not talking about it, as well as trying to paint "poor Jobe" as a victim of unsavoury treatment by rival fans (apparently booing an admitted drug cheat is poor form now) was all highly comical. I can just picture Bourban Beccy or Paul merkin doing the same thing on their various weekly spots if it were a league player :sarcasm:

Do you really expect someone who is employed by the AFL to do anything except back up the AFL stance. I would be shocked if he didn't

Mistake of law isn't a defence any other time, why the f**k should it be now.

The AFL stance is to fake phone drop outs when the questioning gets tough.

How is Demtriou getting off so lightly with sitting on his hands through this? Smith and the NRL were crucified for not being seen to be doing anything yet AFL is blowing up and getting an easy ride. The way they play the victim mentality for AFL players yet the blame game for NRL is sickening.
