This is sht for sharks fans and players, IF they were duped into taking that sht. I guess it was inevitable charges would get laid and just a case of how bad this gets for cronulla if players sue them. I get the sense if they look to be going belly up the NRL will step in and financially support them but take so e control of the club like they have done with wests.

On a side note have the NRL learnt anything from this sorry saga and changed procedures or anything to stop it happening in future?

Don't allow cancers like Stephen Dank to infiltrate your code.

How long will the "Sharks have no money" comment continue to get trotted out?

They don't have money, yet. They are millions in debt and operating on a shoe string compared to most clubs. One day they will if the development pays off as predicted but as it stands now you can hardly say they are flush with cash.

I believe the NRL now have a register for all football related staff and in particular sports science / supplement personnel? Correct me if I'm wrong but I do believe seeing that at some stage initiated by the NRL.

That seems to be the only change in procedure on a holistic level that I have seen evidence of.

Well they allowed Dank in the NRL for 6 years at Manly...& didnt warn the Sharks about him.

Exactly. To allow Dank to go around possibly doping players, either willingly or otherwise for 6 + years right under the NRL's nose....I don't know if that says more about the NRL, Manly, Cronulla or ASADA. It was a systematic failure and now the players must suffer the consequences of being nothing more than ignorant about an issue that shouldn't have even been one.

ASADA issues 'show cause' notices to NRL players

20 August 2014

The Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) today commenced issuing ‘show cause’ notices to current and former players from the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks Football Club.

A total of 17 ‘show cause’ notices are to be issued in accordance with the ASADA Chief Executive Officer’s (CEO) responsibilities under the ASADA Act and relate to the use of prohibited substances, CJC-1295 and GHRP-6, during the 2011 season.

The decision to issue ‘show cause’ notices by ASADA CEO, Ben McDevitt is based on evidence collected during the 16 month investigation.
Prior to issuing the ‘show cause’ notices the evidence was reviewed by former Federal Court Judge the Hon. Garry Downes and ASADA senior legal counsel. Based on his assessment of the evidence, the ASADA CEO has reached the conclusion that the players have a case to answer under the World Anti-Doping Code.

Once the ASADA CEO reaches a conclusion that a possible violation has occurred, it is his duty under legislation to put formal allegations to players and invite them to respond.

Players have ten days to lodge a submission in response to the ‘show cause’ notices. This information along with the evidence collected by ASADA will be put to the independent Anti-Doping Rule Violation Panel (the Panel) for consideration.

In the event the Panel enters a player onto the Register of Findings, the player will be offered an opportunity to have their matter heard before the NRL’s Anti-Doping Tribunal.

Should a matter proceed to the NRL’s Anti-Doping Tribunal, it will be responsible for assessing the evidence and player submissions before delivering a judgment.

Rights of appeal are offered to parties under the World Anti-Doping Code.

In the event a player waives their right to a hearing, the NRL will decide the appropriate sanction in accordance with its anti-doping policy.

The World Anti-Doping Code’s Prohibited List categorises CJC-1295 and GHRP-6 under S2 ‘Peptide Hormones, Growth Factors and Related Substances’. Anyone considering the use of these substances should be aware that they may result in potentially serious health consequences. GHRP-6 is not approved for human use in Australia.

ASADA is unable to discuss the specifics of the ‘show cause’ notices while matters remain ongoing.

have also started trialing blood passports, at great expense.

That's pretty enticing, players are going to think about that for sure, to only miss what 3 games and then be back playing next year.

Im still loving how the NRL has come out of this looking squeaky clean compared to the AFL subterfuge, bullshitting and attempts at deflection.

It would probably be the best way out but to go through an entire pre season with zero training is going to hit them hard

this all happened under Gallop's watch

waiting for Rothfield to do an interview with him over it and why he didn't implement a better system to monitor clubs and their staff

won't hold my breath

back dated suspension? A three game ban made to look like a one year suspension to appear tough, sounds like something the AFL would come up with.

If the bans on offer are that enticing then either ASADA thinks the players are the tip of the iceberg or the they don't want the players asking questions in my opinion
