I don't think even the most die in the wool Labor supporter would say this is giving Labor a "kick along". The will be out of office in 7 days, and I this isn't suddenly going to disappear.

i'm sure joff...rudd still thinks he can win. and hey it's the last throw of the dice, might as well chip it from inside your own 20....

We lost both games.

and havent won any major comp either. I'd say there's an argument there that any drug use might not work on the sharks players but i dunno if that'll wash with asada

If they don't have the facts (proof) against Cronulla by now, why the f**k not? This has been going for 7 months.

plus 12 months before they announced the investigation.

whilst i'm happy they've got a drug cheat and if he was trafficking i hope they throw the book at him, we still havent seen any other evidence to justify the hyperbole of the initial press conference. is sandor the criminal gang? wtf were the Gay league and yawnion dragged onto the stage for? aside from an anomaly in betting o/s in a gayleague match i'm not sure why they were dragged into this

if there are other paleyrs then give them an infraction notice and lets move on

hahaha. So when a club doesn't know it's days are numbered they sign nuffies?

yes. this is what the eels have based their previous recruitment on

Nuffies ?

I believe he meant about a club knowing it is going under signing big names, what does a club not knowing it is going under or in a good position do, sign nobodies?
Everybody tries for big names regardless of their position is his meaning.

To be honest Ronnie, I'm glad Sandor is out there telling all.

It'll help the truth come out & then we can move on. If players have done the wrong thing, they should be punished.

My only fear is will be punished like Sandor with a ridiculous charge, for SFA. That will piss me off, especially if it leads to the downfall of my club.

I know it is in your blood to hate the Sharks mate, I get that, but if my greatest sporting passion is killed off due to the irresponsible acts of 1 or a few, I'm gunna be so pissed, forever & a day.

David Smith says they are dealing in facts & that's great but I'm not sure it takes many "facts" to be slapped with a monumental punishment.

Just calling it as I see it mate - irrespective of club.

Penrith take action against News Corp

AAP
Fri 30th August, 1:27pm

Penrith are taking legal action against News Corp Australia following a Daily Telegraph back page story on Friday regarding Sandor Earl's time with the NRL club.
Canberra winger Earl was issued with an infraction notice by the NRL on Thursday after admitting using and trafficking the banned CJC-1295 peptide when interviewed by ASADA officials earlier this week.
"Panthers are very disappointed with the inaccurate and misleading story in today's Daily Telegraph," a club statement said.
"Panthers have been cooperating; including providing receipts for what the club believes is legitimate treatment of the player.
"Panthers are taking legal action because of damage to their reputation and because of the misleading and untrue allegations.
"We will be making no further comment, as it is now a legal matter."
A News Corp Australia official declined to comment on the Panthers statement.

Shame we can't afford to do the same.

Maybe we are saving all the ammunition up .

Well done Panthers for not taking their lies.

Umm, what was misleading about it?

Penrith will lose this

I agree. I think this will be difficult to win.

What, I imagine, they will try to argue is that the article writes as if the Panthers knew Sandor Earl was going to be given supplements. The opening paragraph states:

THE Penrith Panthers have admitted paying $1160 for Sandor Earl to be injected with supplements in 2011 as the NRL's ElephantJuice-in-sport investigation claimed its first major scalp.

It could be argued that they paid because of treatment, which doesn't necessarily mean supplement injections.

However, the rest of the article goes on to say that Penrith deny knowingly paying for supplements, etc.

THE Penrith Panthers have admitted paying $1160 for Sandor Earl to be injected with supplements in 2011 as the NRL's ElephantJuice-in-sport investigation claimed its first major scalp.

But Panthers Group boss Warren Wilson was on Thursday night adamant the club was unaware Earl’s medical bills related to banned peptide CJC-1295 and said the NRL star had gone off-site without Penrith’s consent.

In a watershed day that could blow the Australian Anti-Doping Authority’s seven-month investigation into rugby league wide open, the NRL hit Earl with a provisional suspension relating to the use and trafficking of CJC-1295.
News Corp can reveal that a Sydney doctor with a direct link to sports scientist Stephen Dank injected Earl 12 times during 2011 and billed the Penrith Panthers Group $1160.
Penrith Panthers Group boss Wilson confirmed Earl visited doctor Ijaz Khan’s Injury Care clinic in Cabramatta after suffering a shoulder injury when contracted to the Panthers in 2011.

"When we first heard about it (in June), we looked for invoices under the doctor’s name but couldn’t find any," Wilson said.
"Then we Googled his name and we found the clinic (Injury Care). We found (12) invoices from that clinic for treatment to Sandor Earl, totalling around $1,000.
"They weren’t paid until January 2012 because the club wasn’t in the best financial shape at that time.
"They were also sent to Panthers Group and not the football club. When we found them we forwarded them to the NRL’s Integrity Unit to investigate.

"We left it in the hands of the NRL. We’ve since conducted a review of our procedures, because there was a player going off-site for treatment without any authorisation from the club.
"That’s a problem, not just for Penrith, that you can’t control players once they’re away from your care.
"We’ve completely changed our procedures as a result and no one is to get any treatment - or pay any invoices - unless it’s authorised by the doctor.
"This player has done something individually wrong and if he’s found guilty of trafficking then I hope they throw the book at him."
Panthers general manager Phil Gould confirmed to News Corp in June that the club had referred the Earl issue to the NRL’s integrity unit.

Dr Khan’s Cabramatta Injury Care Clinic has previously featured in relation to Dank and the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Agency’s ElephantJuice-in-sport investigation, with the Cronulla Sharks billed by the clinic for blood tests at the start of 2011.
At the time the blood tests were conducted, Dank was in the process of implementing the supplements program that has landed the Sharks in the crosshairs of the ongoing ASADA investigation.
Crucially, CJC-1295 is one of the peptides the Sharks stand accused of using, according to the

independent report compiled by Dr Tricia Kavanagh and detailed by News Corp in May.
Kavanagh’s report led to coach Shane Flanagan being stood down for a fortnight and four staff members being sacked by the club’s previous board, before the new board headed by Damian Keogh opted to overthrow the decisions.
Trainer Mark Noakes, who has since been reinstated against the NRL’s advice, provided a statement naming CJC-1295 and GHRP-6 as the peptides that the Sharks allegedly used.

o given Earl has been issued with an infraction notice for the use of CJC-1295, Cronulla’s place in the finals remains a bone of contention among rival NRL clubs.
Dank has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing or giving athletes banned substances.
Earl joined the Panthers at the start of 2011 and spent the majority of his tenure injured or playing NSW Cup for Windsor Wolves.
He then switched clubs to the Canberra Raiders midway through last year and went on to star in the 2012 finals.
The winger, renowned for his combination with Blake Ferguson, started this season strongly before being dropped to NSW Cup and then recently re-emerged in the NRL.
In May, Earl announced he would be leaving the NRL at the end of this season to play French rugby for second division club Pau on a one-year contract worth $220,000.
That contract is now up in the air given that the World Anti-Doping Agency’s code can also be applied in European rugby.

Read the article...thoroughly and properly.

Panthers have nothing to worry about.

The i's and t's were dotted and crossed...newspaper headline damage to our club to which Panthers should go in hard for.

The inference of the article is that they knew they were paying him for supplements outside of the clubs program, that would be the portion that causes the trouble

Defamation as a cause of action is, subject to some exceptions, limited to individuals. The only cause of action that I can see is injurious falsehood, however, you have to demonstrate damage and that there is intent to cause damage.

We were cleared when the turds were ripe and smelly...they had nothing on us and they'll have nothing on us now.

This is NEWS LTD and Rothfield's lynch mob are trying to shift attention towards us from the Sharks perspective...and because we knocked Brisbane out of the finals running...it really hurts up there when there a couple of rounds to go and they know they are just making up the numbers.

You do damage to the NEWS LTD owned Broncos, they'll let you know how much they are hurting.

Sensitive pr!cks.

I see nothing in that article that isn't true.

Did Panthers pay for treatment? yes
Did Panthers have a shocking management process that had no control of players rehab medical programmes? yes
Did news Ltd say the Panthers knowingly paid for a player to have banned substances injected in him? No

exactly what are they suing them for?

"We’ve completely changed our procedures
We’ve since conducted a review of our procedures

Never ceases to amaze me how poor the governance and management is at some of these multi million $ companies.

I didn't read this part but that should strengthen the Panthers case.

To be more specific it gives them a better chance of a well placed retraction and a donation to a charity from News Ltd that the Panthers support
