organised crime and juice of the elephant pt V

Considering there's absolutely no f**king evidence that the players have knowingly done anything wrong any penalty is too long. Add in the fact the turmoil this farce of an investigation has put the players through over an extended period of time...

Apart from the reports that the players were told "don't tell the Doc". If there is any truth to that, then the players certainly do have to wear at least some responsibility.

My sense is there was evidence but asada screwed up.

I think you are on the money there, ASADA has really screwed up. I have heard many of the interviews were actually conducted illegally. (based on how sat in). Not only that but WADA are really pissed off with how ASADA has conducted this farce.

I was wondering when these guys were going to hit out.

The deal's a joke and I hope WADA appeal. The NRL's always been soft on drugs.

Australian Olympic athletes hit out at ASADA?s ?ludicrous? backdated bans for NRL players

What's ludicrous? That a sportsman gets a mandatory 2 years for whereabouts issues regardless of excuse, or that there is a deal struck when players have been subjected to 18 months of public mudraking on the basis of a pizzweak, unprovable case?

Just because the profile of the nrl miraculously resulted in a semi sensible outcome from a power mad, previously unaccountable entity don't get the shits at the nrl.

We don't know what evidence they have as the players won't talk because it's not in their best interests, and ASADA only give selected information because they are under no obligation to tell us anything.

trotting out some dt misinformation

we need to cut the bullshit away here and get to the facts

fact is, there are no positive tests to any banned substance FACT

too much focus on hearsay evidence going on

haha wtf??

lets change the way the prosecution process for a court of law works

someone can be taken to court with no evidence and their whole case is sweating on an admission of guilt in the witness box

young adults are getting suspended sentences every other day for worse shit than peptides

f**k our society is warped

Put it into a bit more perspective - a journalist was decapitated by radical extremists 3 days ago.
Is a tad more important to society than an 11 week, completely ineffective, alleged peptide program.

I wonder how many of the sharks fans defending their players' ignorance feel he same way about Melbourne Storm players knowing nothing about salary cap cheating?

Couldn't really give a rats arse about the Storm and their salary cap cheating that lead to 2 premierships. Would sincerely like to apologise to all rugby league fans for the Sharks 6 week indiscretions that allowed us to cheat out way to 15th place on the ladder back in 2011.

What do you mean.... a suspended sentence from a court of law?

This is just sport and the Sharks players haven't got any kind of custodial sentence, suspended or not. There is no loss of freedom, no need to report to police, no ankle bracelet. They haven't been charged with breaking any laws. The vast majority of society don't give a toss about them or the game or what they took or who gave it to them. They've just been suspended from work for a few weeks because they have broken the rules. There is no need to drag society into the strange workings of the Sharks footy team.

Fact is the players have just done what most crims do when they get caught, not that they are crims. They got caught and either shifted the blame or claimed stupidity in the hope it would get them a smaller punishment. It worked and many people think that's great. I think it has the potential to ruin pro sport since every athlete in the world now has a precedent to avoid any real punishment. But it's only sport so it doesn't really matter.

I have absolutely no doubt there is some evidence, but the likelihood is that that evidence was such that ASADA couldn't guarantee a "proper" ban would stick, hence the deal offered. And the reverse applies to the players. They know there is some evidence , but in the opinion of their legal counsel (but what else would they say), that evidence is weak, but better take a Clayton's ban than run the risk of getting rubbed out long term.

If they had evidence they would of been able to get them to roll over without the plea....

Or they screwed up by not charging them last November, or they screwed up by not following proper process, or they were after bigger fish. There is no way in the world they would have issued show cause, and players accepted being labelled drug cheats if there was NO evidence. Your kidding yourself.

adding context to the hype and exposure you dick, yes it is a sport that's why I said it

don't try and marginalise what effect being called a drug cheat on the front page of every national paper and news bulletin does to an individual, that's why I made a contextual based comparison to the wider society where much bigger shit that no one bats an eye lid to is taking place
