Why is everyone picking B.Stewart? He is clearly not 100% this year and its been showing
Well Hayne is the only other option and even if Stewart has been average he has been in a lot better nick than Hayne who has been dead ordinary. Good around origin time but he wasn't that great last year.

I think we are forced to pick Brett first. Gordon gets caught out of position a bit given he hasn't played there a lot over the years. He would be better on the wing if at all.

I think Gordon might have to be picked unless they go with Maloney otherwise you are relying on Carney to kick goals and that could be the difference between winning and losing.

15 of the 17 already picked according to Laurie on the game plan, five-eighth and a prop spot still up for grabs.

Guessing the team will be:

1. Stewart
2. Hayne
3. Jennings
4. Morris
5. Morris
6. Carney
7. Pearce
8. Grant
9. Farah
10. Tamou
11. Hoffman
12. Bird
13. Gallen

14. Gidley
15. Lewis
16. Merrin
17. Watmough

Knowing the Blues, we'll continue having a mobile bench containing 1 utility, 2 backrowers and a prop. Watmough and Lewis have proven at Origin level to be pretty good at exploiting the Maroons through the middle with footwork and speed at least. Not that I'd go that apprach, but I do still think that's a fairly good team even though it could be a bit better. Woods will be very unlucky.

Do Brett Stewart and Watmong satisfy the minimum requirements for Manly players, or will we see another selection like Wolfman/King/Buhrer?

Yeah, he said the only two spots still up in the air were 5/8 and one of the prop positions.

His theory is that a lot of the guys from the last few years feel the losses so bad that they need a chance to make it up. He basically stated that those who have lost, know what it's all about and they'd have to start from scratch with new guys.

Interesting theory

Really wouldn't complain if I was a Souths fan, the less players picked the better, just let Daley be a fruit, Pearce to suck again and NSW to fall short again, before he trots out the line that "we will be better next year with this same group of players"

If that's the case I wouldn't expect too many surprises. Maybe something like this

1. Stewart
2. Hayne
3. Jennings
4. Morris
5. Morris
6.
7. Pearce
8. Grant
9. Farah
10. Tamou
11. Lewis
12. Bird
13. Gallen

14. Gidley
15.
16. Merrin
17. Watmough

I think he's stopping short of naming Carney because of the injury concerns but he's probably looking at Maloney as well because of the club combination (even though Carney has played more games alongside Pearce)

As for the other spot, I hope it goes to Woods (ideally he would start) but I think Tolman might be in the running and I think that's a mistake. Will have to see I guess.

We'll almost certainly get a Fulton pick. Tom Symonds is a massive chance tbh.

And don't forget the obligatory 'WTF' pick. Look for someone with big hair. God help us if Tom Symonds grows a ranga afro, he'd be a special.

On a more serioous note, Carney for 6 plz. He should have racked up about 16 try assists against the Dogs but he's surrounded by plebs like Pomeroy.

We aren't going to win a series with Daley in charge. The way he's carried on this year has l the hallmarks of the same mistakes we made in previous series. Guys picked on having been there before, form being ignored, and an idiot at the wheel.

After watching that interview last night, I have to agree. Not picking form players because they don't know what it's like to lose at Origin level... Fmd! He also said that Pearce goes round again because NSW have invested so much in him and Daley has a gut feeling that we'll see his best this year. Lol.

You forgot the "Ben Creagh pick", or does that come under "WTF pick"?

I know I named Maloney, but I'd be perfectly happy with giving Carney another go if he's fit and firing. If only we could go Maloney and Craney and piss Pearce off...

Gut feeling hey? And this is the coach of NSW? Tommy Raudonikis would do a better job and he admited in 1999 as coach of Wests that he didnt have game plans.

I don't agree with laurie's logic but also don't agree with basing picks on form.

Just curious to know who are some in form players who won't be picked but should be in your opinion on account of their current form? Would like to see these names to get a feel for what kind of players you're talking about.
Like adam reynolds? agreed because no hb in nsw is better than him, the encumbant blues hb sucks ball on his best day so its a no brainer.
Gordon? no, there are plenty of better fbs and wingers, on their best day a million miles better, their form isn't great this year but who cares.
Etc. Basically I'd ignore form and go by how good they are when they are in form. Ie I'd go with the best players, some of which are in form, many of which are not.

Please NO Kurt Gidley. PLEASE!!!!!

I'd flirt with the idea of having Carney on the bench if he doesn't retain his position. He was on fire for Cronulla last weekend and created about a million opportunities for Cronullas below par players. He can cover Fullback, the Halves and could have a crack at Hooker. (Farah will play 80 anyway)

As for the 5/8 position Gal seems to want Carney to retain his spot but I think Daley is really keen on Maloney.

Maloney at his best should be there but he is too unpredictable and that was the problem last year when he caved. He wasn't too good in City/Country and that is saying something.

I think the club combination of Jennings, Pearce and Maloney will see Maloney picked.

Carney or Sutton for the bench please.

Gidley is a overrated hack who should have been blacklisted 3 years ago. He has been shown up every year at Origin level and I think the Blues played better without him there last year.

I can't believe he played for Australia this year.. Talk about flogging a dead horse!

AND I'd say this is Pearce's last chance to perform at this level. Too many times has he failed to perform and I know everyone says that this Queensland side is very good which is correct but god damn he has been ordinary for the past few years at Origin.
Lets hope his Club form can cross over to Origin this year.

Adam Reynolds is running a little bit more this year and he will benefit from another season of NRL before making the jump to Origin level.

God damn I wish we had a Halfback with Pearce's running ability and Reynold's kicking ability.
