Was at Federation Square (Melbourne) watching the Matildas go down unfortunately.
Place was packed out on a cold night, as well as Suncorp Stadium. Something unheard of happening for a womens world cup game 10yrs back, maybe even 5 years ago

Followed up the disappointment the following night at Marvel Stadium, but enough said of that here.

Got tix to the semi final on the 16/8, be interesting what sort of crowd turns up if Australia don't go through. I suspect wont get anywhere near the capacity. But still be a huge crowd? Hope we dont get to find out, will be on par the womens t20 final in 2020 for atmosphere and attendance if Australia are there

It's also important to note that if 3 NRL games at the SFS were sold out within 10 days, NRL fans would be crowing and rightly so.
The amount of sold out WWC games during this tournament has been incredible and even far exceeded my expectations of this tournament.
And, it is clear that they are mostly genuine football fans, not blow ins.

Just watch this 1 minute 48 second highlight from last night's Columbia vs Germany match at another sold out Sydney Football stadium. (40 499)
It is the 3rd sold out match at the SFS in 2 weeks. There was another 25000 crowd
And unlike the AFL, there is no falsifying of crowd numbers.

Class goal...but that 1 minute 48 second clip contained about 13 seconds of actual play. The rest was mainly footage of the crowd and the Columbian bench to be fair

Yes, I thought the Canada defender laying down injured indefinitely to get the VAR call was in poor taste.

Although for the first goal, there was the hint of offside in the lead up when the ball came down the left flank that was missed... so maybe it was pay back?

Although this coach looks like he gets his interchange tactics from BA. Gorry will surely struggle to be fit for the next game with the amount of wacks she copped.
