Well done Ch 7. Solid effort.

Sorry mate but not well done Channel 7.
Nearly every add break has been spammed with adds for AFL, and they have only shown Matilda's matches to date.
It's been poorly covered by that network.
And then there is this............. an absolute disgrace.

Yeah, they are shit. It was a sarcastic reaction to them talking themselves up.

Germany lost because their goal keeper didn’t have the balls to challenge for the ball. Time and time again she would stand on the goal line in a corner situation and watch the ball and the kerfuffle instead of getting amoungst it. The goal that was scored by Korea could have been prevented if she rush the forward instead of just shitting her pants.

Anyway I like the way Korea plays, so auf wiedersehen merkins.

Apart from 2nd ranked team Germany being eliminated - Sweden playing USA will mean either 1st or 3rd ranked teams will be out before the quarter final stage, along with already eliminated 7th and 8th ranked teams (Canada & Brazil).

Australia Japan Norway and Denmark are ranked 10-13th, and two will be eliminated in the next round when 10th play 13th and 11th play 12th.

Nigeria and Jamaica seem like outsiders because of their rankings, but so far they haven't lost a game.

This is exactly why I love world cups - their structure and format and unpredictability.

I reckon it attracts fans that wouldn't necessarily get interested, tune in or turn out week to week for the equivalent regular competitions (e.g. A-League etc). And in the scheme of things, that's ok too - except for any misplaced expectations of future crowd figures etc at a different level of the code.

Very impressed watching Japan's game today. I love their style, so much control on the ball, and ability to extract turnovers through close marking so easily. Pity they play USA or Sweden, otherwise they might have been in the reckoning to win the whole thing.
