But this shootout went so deep... normally you'd get through it in five, maybe six-seven strikes each team. There were people who wouldn't dream of taking a shot having to step up for a penalty.

I'm an Ellie Carpenter fan, though the way her crosses and shots have been a bit off this tournament I thought that was the moment we'd bow out... but she managed to get it in 😂

It is just amazing how paranoid the AFL are about football.
The media crow about what a great sport it is to show the Matilda's live before and after games, yet this happens.


Let's not forget that they were dragged kicking and screaming to do it in the first place.
Victorians and the AFL are just f**kED.

There was an article earlier today on FoxSports, yet I can't find it now. Infantino put little Gillon in his place, and so did the MCC.

So the AFL did what they said they would do? Or did they take it off earlier?

“The Matildas versus France quarter-final will be shown on the MCG big screen from the kick-off until Carlton and Melbourne run out on the MCG from somewhere between 7.07pm and 7.10pm tonight.

“If the game finishes in regulation time, this is no problem, but if it goes to extra time and then penalties, it will be a big problem.”

In hindsight, it was pretty lame of them for not giving up their lease on the MCG for 7 weeks for the better good. Clearly the NRL have found compromise with THREE stadiums.

I was watching till extra time finished. France where the classier and superior side. But that's football. They should of been awarded 2 x penalties.
I left for dinner as the shoot out started. I'm on a buisness trip and Japanese food was calling me. I told everyone at the table France won the shoot out when I checked score.
They'll get a nice suprise

If the Matilda’s win it would arguably be our biggest sports win in my life time. I rate it higher than rugby world cups and cricket as 50 over cricket world cups are lame. Also/Mainly because womens soccer is very big in the USA which is the biggest sports place in the world.

It’s a shame for world interest levels that the US is out.
It is also a shame that NSW blundered by not converting stadium Australia into a world class rectangular stadium for this event.
The Moore park waste was the worst decision in years.
