So the big derby this weekend... of course it's on everybody's lips as the major topic of conversation. No?

With Sydney FC's documented central defence woes and desperation to try and rush a european transfer into the side to fill suspension and injury vacancies, the Wanderers should almost start as favourites... anything less than a win will rank as a disappointment and fuel calls for Popa to finally be moved on.

Can our red and black representatives of western sydney do it? Can they manage an all too elusive derby victory - or are they destined to forever be the sky blues' sydney bitch?

"The Melbourne derby and the Sydney derby have become rather big, I can even say internationally because back home people talk about the Sydney derby...
...the Sixers versus Thunder," Brathwaite said.

Lol. Some random geogrpahically neutral teams are going to draw a bigger crowd to their match than the A-League's overblown centre-piece "derby".

http://www.smh.com.au/sport/cricket...k-crowd-for-derby-double-20170111-gtpkel.html

But fancy scheduling the thug-ball derby next door to and at the same time as the family friendly cricket derby! Bet there'll still be the usual whinging in some quarters about the "police presence" though...

The police have made contact with Western Sydney Wanderers supporters to co-orindate their usual march through Surry Hills from Central Station to the ground, and the fans have indicated they will adhere to the suggested timeline.

Dengate didn't envisage any major problems from the family-friendly Big Bash crowd, but had a stern warning for any soccer supporters who planned to let off any flares.

"When there's a local derby if people want to play up and let off flares and the like, we will conduct the normal business that way – they'll be arrested, charged, front court, we give the information through to Soccer Australia and they'll enact, should they choose to do so, and hopefully they do, banning procedures and the like," Dengate said.

You've been warned - no excuses RBB!

So, the Wanderers, who are having a pretty shite season, have increased their membership to record levels, while ESFC who are undefeated thus far and having their best season since god knows when, still haven't reached last years figure. The team for ALL of Sydney can't even capture the east.
What gives?

Membership numbers... the fall-back point of comparison, when on-field success is lacking.

Next we'll be talking about who had the biggest tifo again!

Lol.

And some useful "facts"... on ACTUAL attendence this seson - not the number of "members", but the number of people who actually turn up to watch the games.

And surprise surprise, Sydney's overall average attendance this season is higher than WSW, despite the claimed "membership" totals.

The Effen Cees cater far more to the casual fan, whereas the WSWers are more for people who want to belong to something. The behaviour of their most prominent fans confirms this.

Facts.

Phart,

If you want to quote links, at least make them relevant.
I asked the simple question (which may be beyond you to be honest), as to why ESFC memberships are so low this season when they are flying so high, while, the Wanderers, who are struggling, have broken their membership record this season.
It's not hard to see the true figures, even from the same website you quoted. (see above)
Please, rather than try and deceive us with irrelevant links, why don't you answer the question, which, incidentally, wasn't even directed at you, but as usual, you feel the need to troll this thread with irrelevant stats or comments, just because they do no not suit your agenda of trolling.
And you wonder why I don't post much in this thread anymore, or, only reply to those that would rather talk about football, rather than bag it out all the time.

How meaningful is the membership number?

cos I have always thought the membership numbers they bang on about for the Eels to be completely irrelevant - we get 20k odd members but they have practically given away memberships at times and it probably includes memberships for dogs

At least the wanderers crowd numbers are close to the membership number

Huh, what? Lol.

Actually I wasn't wondering... though I had noticed how peaceful it had been in this thread without any passive aggressive (over)reactions for a while.

As usual, you seem to like to maintain your right to have a dig at Sydney FC, but seem unable to accept if someone turns "your agenda" around on WSW?

And oops, my link/post showed overall A-Leagues figures rather than this season, but the point stands - membership numbers do not equate to actual attendance.

It's a simple point that Pou has responded to without any need or reason to make it personal.
