The thing is woman's teams need to be winning to get noticed here, and in most countries.

The Matilda's didnt come into existence 4 years ago when everyone suddenly became a fan, they've been around for decades but didnt have success.

People will quickly jump back off the bandwagon if they dont at least make it to the quarter finals in the WC.

to a point I agree but if you go back a bit they were treated like shit, no money from Australian Football and no sponsorship

they did it all the hard way and now look at the support they are getting compared to back then, and its well deserved

Well NATHAN CLEARY romance has helped them also. Free media coverage from the biggest star in Australian sport.

I’m not intending to be wokist here but when it comes to national teams, you didn’t need to include “woman’s” in your point.
Socceroos, Wallabies, Olympic swimming team, even some individuals in individual sports. Unless they winning, people forget they even exist

Another example of Pou arguing for the sake of it.
I can’t get good stats at moment but the thing is even if we genderise sports (all sports of course because simply saying “women’s soccer isn’t the most popular sport because of course soccer in general is actually the most popular” would be silly) I reckon it’s really only going to be beaten by men’s soccer and probably other sports where the gender divide is significant (e.g. cricket). It honestly wouldn’t surprise me if it’s still within top 5

they were up there before chinboy got involved

I reckon I've read more articles and seem more news stories about Australia's glamour couple in the last 6mths then stuff solely based on the Matildas. Nathan Cleary helped propel them and keep the momentum.

Yep you’re right, f**k you Matildas, you’re actually shit at soccer because women’s soccer isn’t as popular as f**ken lacrosse. Men’s lacrosse of course. Happy International Women’s Day
No I love the Matildas (when they win). Not because I give a shit about women’s soccer, but because I’m a hardcore nationalist. If I actually cared about women’s soccer I’d follow their club matches. But I don’t, just like nearly everyone else on the Matildas bandwagon.

The socceroos, kangaroos, Aussie cricket team , are well supported win, lose or draw.

I read somewhere that the Matildas are Australia's most loved sporting team, followed by our women's cricket team.

Be good to see them start to get paid more...
do soccer players get paid much for internationals in general
In the men's game I would assume it wouldn't get a lot given most players earn vastly more in their day job

agree with the publicity recently but they've been popular for a while now and it all begun when we started to invest in the Matildas

tbh, it started when they all did the nude callendar, that got them in the news and thier prifile improved from there, very innovatie I thought and that was what, 20 years ago ?

chin boy was in nappies then

I follow sports. I've heard of 2 Matildas. Sam Kerr and Nathans girlfriend Fowler.
I didn't watch Matilads last few games as MAFS was on.
