Don't really see how it's a massive downgrade in batting.

Wade's batting is massively one dimensional and he has only really produced spurts in the last 12-18 months.

Maxwell is needed. He is a true world class t20 player and the sort of player who could take is to a comp.

It's probably all moot anyway as the loss of Starc may be insurmountable. Best short form bowler in the world by lengths and our depth comes nowhere near him.

Also lacking quality in the spin department. Plus our batsmen don't play spin that well.

yeh it will be interesting to see what type of pitches they prepare, they normally play their T20s on roads over there but their test pitches turn sideways

if its their usual roads then spin will be less effective, but so will we without Starc

Shane Warne hits out at Steve Waugh, 'the most selfish cricketer I've played with' http://ow.ly/Y6nWp

Spin king Shane Warne has launched a stinging verbal attack on his former captain Steve Waugh, labelling him "the most selfish cricketer I've played with".
Speaking on Channel Ten's TV show I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here, in the episode that will air on Tuesday night, Warne highlighted his own axing on the 1999 tour of the West Indies as the main reason for his disdain for Waugh.
After three Tests of the four-match series, Warne had taken just two wickets at an average of 134 while tweaking counterpart Stuart MacGill snared seven at 31.43.

The Windies held a 2-1 lead at that stage of the series and Warne was replaced by Colin Miller for the final match.
Despite conceding that Waugh was justified in dropping him, as Australia won the fourth Test by 176 runs to retain the Frank Worrell Trophy, Warne said he felt like a scapegoat and has never forgiven Waugh for that.
"There's a lot of reasons I don't like Steve Waugh ... [one of them] because he's the most selfish cricketer I've played with," Warne said.

"One thing that really annoyed me about him was the one Test I got dropped, in the West Indies [in 1999], we had to win the last Test match to [retain] the [Frank Worrell] Trophy. At that stage, captain [Waugh], vice-captain [me], coach [Geoff Marsh] used to pick the team.
"We went to selection. I hadn't bowled well [and] we had lost - Brian Lara batted unreal - but I felt like I was being the scapegoat, that because I didn't bowl well it was my fault.
"We got to the selection table and said 'What's everyone's thoughts?'. Steve Waugh said [to me] 'You're not playing'. I went 'What? Hang on. What do you think the team should be? Blah blah blah', and Steve Waugh said 'Nup, I'm the captain of this side ... you're not playing'.
"I was really disappointed with that after [almost] 10 years. I'd just had a shoulder operation. I thought the situation, of having to win a Test match, would've brought the best out in me too.
"I don't like Steve Waugh for a lot of other reasons, but that was the reason I thought [there was no way that relationship would recover]."
Of that fateful decision, Waugh wrote in his book The Meaning Of Luck that it shaped and defined him.
"I lost a great friend but gained fortitude from the experience and learnt categorically that knowing what is right and acting on it are two different things," Waugh wrote.
"One day, I hope Shane comes to terms with the fact it wasn't about me not trusting his immense skill and innate love for the big occasion, but rather a common-sense decision based on facts and the key ingredients every leader must trust and rely on 'gut instinct'."
It would seem Warne has still not come terms with the decision and doesn't look like he will any time soon.

Warne great bowler but a shit human, he got dropped and has hated Waugh ever since. He was bitter he never got the captaincy, even though he should never have been an option after the bookies saga.

Waugh has shown his class over the whole affair while Warne continually looks like a bitter small merkin.

Anyone who doesn't bow down to the great Stephen Rodger Waugh is a merkin in my eyes. I'd swap places with Lynette tomorrow if he would have me. His is the only penis worthy of mention on here, or anywhere for that matter.

Steve Waugh selfish? He did more for Australian cricket then Warne ever did. So many great players owe Steve Waugh so much!

To hear Warnie call anyone else selfish is fairly laughable. What between the smashing the kid's camera, to his positive test for diuretics, to his magnificent eponymously named charity, he's got the self-obsession side of things pretty well covered.

Warne deserved to be dropped then, he had just had his shoulder operation and was bowling pies and McGill had been by far our best spinner for a while.

We needed to win that last test and Warne though he should not be dropped purely because of his record but he completely disregarded his form which was inferior to McGilla's, it was the right decision by Waugh.

His ego is his problem, apart from being a dickhead.

Bringing it up now is just childish stuff.

What else is he going to talk about whilst in South Africa?

I could easily see Waugh being a cold, uncommunicative robot capable of offending people easily. Equally, Warne is a diva of the highest order and wouldn't take much to fire up.

Waugh inspired with his actions. His personal skills are questionable. Warne was capable of inspiring with both but generally was too much of a f**knuckle to be taking seriously as a human being. That is even more true now.

So, in summary Boony shits on the pair of them.

Steve Waugh is a legend but how long did Waugh go without a century prior to him getting that hundred in Sydney on the last ball? If Waugh picks purely on form then he let himself play for a long time in terrible form

But he was dropped for Colin f**king Millar.

Warnie was right about Waugh being selfish, but pointing to his axing was wrong, because Warnie was out of form.

Without looking at the stats, I don't recall Waugh being in terrible form back then. He did go a few tests no centuries but iirc was still producing a few runs.

Nah mate. If he was anyone else he would have been arseholed. Not even his red hanky was saving him at that point.
