If you're not paying 2K per annum, you're assuming to be living in the property for more than 20 years. Actually more than that as 2K in 2042 will be worth less than 2K in 2022.

Very few people these days live in the same house once the kids are gone. In my street, 10 houses have been sold since I bought in 2017.

Sydney, at least is becoming a mover's city, even with it's overpricing and issues.

Having said that, I don't know what problem this solves. I can't think of 1 reason why the current stamp duty is better.
A deadweight loss of 60c in the $ isn't better than around 10c in the $. There's also the opportunity cost of a lump sum payment to consider.

Isnt Afghanastan a f**kin disaster ... the west weave their magic in the world once again.

Poor buggers. Cant imagine living somewhere like that.

I cant blame the USA wanting to get out though. But will anyone learn from it about going in in the first place? It has never ended well.

Yeah the place is f**ked, has been for about 50 years. On the US "going in" this time, I think they had every reason to given the Taliban were nurturing and sheltering Al Qaeda. It's the 20 years since they claimed victory that's been the problem. Oh and the thirty odd years before that where they fought a proxy war with the Russians.

US spent $5.9 trillion on the joint, spraying the vermin and renovating the cottage.
