So because Ukraine is not part of NATO the world is just going to sit by and watch a big fish vs little fish takeover and the best they can do is heckle from the sidelines and cease trade links ?

Seems that the cold war was all bluff. Not that I want WWIII, but the world could have put 5 million troops and a f**k tonne of F whatever jets to act as border bouncers.

The west has to thread the needle. We don’t want a European war.

Some remarks:

Some western academics blame the west for not telling the Ukrainians to chill out on their foreign policy ambitions against the new ussr earlier.

Someone else has said it’s really a middle finger to the USA.

As for the west being surprised, the Cold War never really ended and we have spy satellites everywhere.

I’m not justifying the invasion or killing I f**king hate it. I think Putin has over reacted.

If the Russians want to get especially serious, Kiev would be a puddle.

Al jazzera is a good place to watch the war, very balanced.

The thing with Russia is they power 35% of Europe so as much as they want to help they probably don't want to put their own countries at a disadvantage also.

The West trying to get Ukraine on board was the final straw. You have to wonder if countries like America and Britain knowingly have stoked the fire. And left high and dry

I was desperately trying to tune into the national broadcaster radio when it started and there was a champagne socialist story about caterpillars and a politically correct comedy.

Then Scomo must have intervened so someone at the station flipped the switch and we got direct bbc world service until we could dig up some domestic experts. But that was hours after the invasion.

It was very ordinary.
