Russia is not going to give a damn about sanctions and all that. They can introduce their own and with ukky under control, 30 percent of the critical world wheat harvest, not to mention their enormous reserves of energy.
They can obliterate any and all arms supply lines they like.
Once Putin is committed to a position, he wont back down. He will think he can’t back down.
He’s not going to pull out on the basis of force or silly sanctions and look weak. It’s really dumb to think he would.
These sanctions are really about pacifying the home west audience. The idea that something is being done.
He’s basically f**ked us all over and I don’t think it’s worth innocent peoples lives to show him up or humiliate him.
Learned history buffs like our @soc_123 know that one of the reasons attributed to the Japanese starting the war in the pacific was due to embargoes and sanctions being levelled against them beforehand. Instead of pulling out of China, they attacked Pearl Harbour, displace US sea power and shore up their supply of raw materials to carry on their ambitions of expansion.
It’s easy to miscalculate.
The sporting stuff doesn’t really matter to him. It’s like NATO on the borders, looks good but no real effect. Still I support that NATO move for the time being to contain the theatre, at least put some doubt into the Russian Air Force that their sworn adversaries are ready to respond with lethal force if they fly into 1 mm of western airspace.
I dare say he’s planned for it though.
In all of this, time marches on, Putin and the upsetting deployment of force, will be gone one day.
Ukraine’s fate rests in the Russian people and the regime isn’t exactly a democracy or tolerates too much dissent. So it’s a troubled era, but beware the hysteria.
A cynic might say a troubled vista on primary industry exports from the Russian federation might open up markets for other countries, including Australia and the USA.
