That was one instance where he got it right. Plenty of others where he didn't. I respect that he was a man of conviction. Had an opinion and didn't float in the breeze and was OK with it if his decisions weren't popular.
Different time back them though.
I'm not a fan of Howard, but credit where it's due. He led the country pushing through those laws, which alienated a whole heap of their base. They were very angry, and organised, and he didn't shirk it, he met their protests and addressed them.

Sure times are different, but the qualities that make for leadership haven't changed.
