Not blaming Scomo, but we really should have seen this coming.
It's a monumental fracture of the Pacific alliances, brought about by the dilution of aid and the disregard for meaningful action on climate change. Not blaming scomo ? Well who's fault is it then, the LNP machine ? If this happened under labor's watch Murdoch, Stokes and Nine would be tearing them to shreds. Have you noticed that the Solomon Islands noise has died down already ? Nice to have 90% of the media in your pocket.

Because Liberal PMs are never held hostage by their backroom party shenanigans.

As I said I will decide on the day but the fact ScoMo can't stand on his own two feet and stands up for our sovereignty has my respect.

Albo didn't even know the God dam unemployment rate. Even I know it and I'm a peanut

I don’t have the depth of knowledge on he topic to attribute the genesis of the difficulty to Scomo.

We have sophisticated intel agencies to monitor these things.

They are a sovereign state and we can’t impose our will upon them.

I am not sure if they were eager to listen to us anyway. If you are the Solomons perhaps the wiser course wold have been to leak stuff and get a resource bidding war happening.

The North Korean policy of failed state blackmail.

I’m terms of risk, they have put their eggs into the one basket and their ability to bargain is reduced.

But it’s a failed state, they are pretty desperate, leaving them vulnerable all around.

The right wing media does its thing, but people are not as dumb as we appear.

I couldn’t care less if Albo hasn’t mastered all the stats. Not relevant is it?

I don't get what you said at all. They have only left the fold of pacific unity because their pleas for assistance have fallen on entitled deaf ears. We reap what we sow and that may well mean China having a military presence in the pacific.

They better watch out when our subs get delivered in <checks notes> 2050 !

Well they could done up a fake Chinese base document with berths for their nuclear subs and carrier task forces.

Added to that a distribution plan of the $3b economic stimulus program and so forth and then the Solomon PM scans that into the PC where it ends up at the Australian Defence Signals Directorate ( our CIA) server by beer o clock.

Panic sets in and offers of western cash are promised if they hold out.

I’d say the first Chinese “military and economic advisors” are on their way by now.

We just have to calculate the resources we need to monitor a potentially hostile neighbour and rip it out of other areas.

What do we do if they nuclear up? Do we lease a few minutemen for a deterrence?

Big brand new US naval port in Townsville etc?

All bad news, but we have to figure it out.

I think it’s so serious that I wouldn’t even drag the election into it or blame - that’s all pointless- just get on with trying to manage it.

Nuclear weapons and all that, they suck, but I read years ago we could get into the game easily enough. Not that we should.

Plus the military industrial complex, the old $350 for a spanner or toilet plunger etc. that’s more than the dole I think, but I’d have to ask a pollie.

Get a couple of our bad boy subs up there just to frighten the villagers.

This is our sphere of influence, we can’t sit back and escort the Chinese Navy in with a handful of Aussie souvenirs ( made in China anyway)

We have plenty of the mighty Raptors based here.

Whats the fine? What is the money I make on a Saturday?

Postal or “ out of area” vote and you can still work.

It’s a service to the whole community Hindy.

Your bit for the greater good of Australia.

“ I love a sunburnt Hindy” an ode to our democracy.

I love a sunburnt Hindy
A land of sweeping plains
Of ragged mountain ranges
Of drought and flooding rains

I love her far horizons
Scomo and Albee
Green tree hugging hippies
Clive Palmer and his greed

The Solomons are lost now
They are Chinese Balinese
We need to send a message
Death or democracy

Hindy would rather work than vote
To keep fed and in means
I understand young tradie friend
But there is a bigger scene.

By Dorothy McKellar and me.

Midnight Oil called this 30 years ago before they went all feral “ Hercules”

Well to be fair that's kinda how I feel. I think a big problem is that it has turned into a presidential style 2 horse race. I actually think the Lib candidate I my seat (Gilmore) is by far the best option but do I not vote for him on the basis that Scomo is the leader of the party? I don't know. The labour incumbent seems mildly competent.

I feel exactly the same way.
We have come to the point where it is a challenge between 2 leaders. Nothing more. And neither of them give me much confidence in running the country. They are both useless clowns. The sad thing is that in both parties, there isn't much better behind them to step up and get us back on track.

Long gone are the days when we had an actual intelligent statesman-like leader like a Keating, Hawke, even Howard or Fraser and indeed Whitlam. They were all visionaries.

These days we get the clowns that we deserve. The media certainly doesn't help in this process, continually asking the most ridiculous questions to try and get a headline, nothing more. Beyond that, we now have a mostly biasedly right media, which is why we are where we are.

I'm still undecided, but will not be wasting my vote, although in my electorate (Blue Ribbon Coalition) my protest voice will go unnoticed. I want to call these two major parties out. They are both f**king rubbish.
Obviously, one of the major parties will win. I hope it is without a majority. That way, they will need to be held to account by the controlling Independent's and/or Greens, which (LOL) they have both said they won't do a deal with.
Yeh, right!! One of them will, to gain power.
It's the only way we can "keep the bastards honest".
