Give them time. What we take for granted now will become eroded to the point where it wil be too late if nobody gives two f**ks.
I disagree, and am not too worried about the move to eventually change the date of whatever is/will be our national day (or any risk of losing the other public holidays we have).

If we were to change the date, what day would you choose? I’d go for Jan 1, which is also Federation Day. It would save the economy a public holiday as well as help keep the merkin hungover element under check.

I don't think we should lose a public holiday if changing the date, which is what would happen if we went with 1 Jan. I don't think "the economy" needs the day back.

On relevance to federation I'd go with 9 July - but think it's more likely it only changes in 5 years or so when we become a republic, so would best be the day that takes effect - which I think they'll ensure is somewhere close to the current date... maybe 1 February?

It was up there with the dumbest comments I have seen on here.
Trolling again.
A bit like RUOK day when self interested f**kwits pretend to care about mental health and then spend 364 days ignoring it.
Nope. It’s a campaign designed to promote self awareness. For merkins to look for signs from those within their circle who may not be in a good place. That it’s OK to ask about your mate’s well being. You might think that some people “pretend” to care then ignore 364, but RUOK has been highly effective in contributing to connection and ultimately (hopefully) in self harm reduction. Indeed the merkin who is in ignore364 mode, might actually help someone on day 200 because the campaign has planted the seed in his mind to reach out if needed.

Or could this become divisive? I would hope not.

I tend to think it would be divisive, having 2 ADs would be catering to a minority group and I think too many right leaning folk would have something else to whinge about.

Google says that the point of Movember was to raise awareness and funds for men's health - specifically prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.

That makes you dickhead of the day.

It was nothing more then a light-hearted joke. Sorry for offending you.

The fact we seem to have a day for something to be aware of every week has made them all get less attention by people now.

I have no doubt it’s effective on some people and am very aware of what it’s about.

However, there are definitely people like I described that exist. That’s irrefutable.

Not offended here.

Everyone is battling against breast cancer for research and awareness cash. Boobies are easy to talk about. Testicular cancer, prostate cancer and male suicide, not so much.

Sounds like the beginning of a @parra pete joke.

Two backpackers, Gary and Hindy are hitchhiking across the country when they come across a farmstead one cold wet night.

They decide to go up to the house to see if they can stay the night. Gary knocks on the door and an old man answers.
"You can stay the night, but I must tell you, my wife passed away a long time ago and all of my daughters have long since moved away from home."

"Oh we're so sorry, replies Hindy, we're in the wrong joke."

It's a contentious issue. I use the term 'celebrate' loosely regarding Australia Day. In my life's journey there was a time when it was a day off work and merkins would get on the piss using AD as a reason. There were also times when us locals would block off the street, collectively cook snags on a makeshift BBQ and have fun playing street cricket with the kids. We spent an OZ day on Sydney Harbour about 10 years ago - the buzz was electric. Should I feel shame for all of that? Nowadays they are chipping around the edges to get at least get it changed to another day, which will most likely be called a totally different name. In itself, the new day's date (if it ever happens) will be decided by an intense waste of time and money.

Australia day's been plenty of dates, it's only been Jan 26 since 1994, so it's been moved about and called different names for like 100 years.

I honestly do not see the big deal in moving it, but if they do, FFS do something like make it the first Friday in Feb or some shit, rather than have it on a f**king Thursday, which just sucks balls.

I coulda taken it off and had a long weekend, normally woulda, but I'm still being analed by the flood and getting back on top of the cost of the damage that five meters or so of fast flowing muddy water does to a building and it's contents.
