Yeah but OK to be Secretary of Defence ? This was 2020, not 1993 as a silly teenager.

In 2020, Hegseth volunteered as one of the up-to-25,000 National Guard troops authorized by the Pentagon to be put on active duty to protect the inauguration of President Joe Biden on January 20, 2021, but was removed from that mission because he was one of twelve soldiers "linked to 'right-wing militia groups,' or found to have 'posted extremist views online.'

Why not secretary of defense?

What was his extreme view or the right wing militia group he may have been linked to?

Secretary of Defence is supposed to be apolitical and experienced.

From SMH today

Trump’s selection of Hegseth, who lacks senior military or national security experience, was sure to draw questions about his qualifications to lead the department.

If confirmed by the Senate, Hegseth would inherit the top job in the midst of multiple global crises – Russia’s war in Ukraine and the ongoing attacks in the Middle East by Iranian proxies; the push for a ceasefire between Israel, Hamas and Hezbollah; and escalating worries about the growing alliance between Russia and North Korea.

The fish tattoo was his reasoning so yes it does... But it's not like a leftie to hide the facts.

Yep, they’re both conservative Trump supporters. But hear his views from his own mouth rather than relying on the takes from equally biased left leaning media. I note that any criticism that I've read of this appointment seems to be coming from those outside the military. I wonder what serving members think.

“He spoke very clearly in the book that he believes woke culture has taken over the US Department of Defence. He makes reference to joining the military now is, in his view, no different to just going to Harvard and doing a gender studies degree.”

Prof. Dean said Hegseth had a “warrior approach” when it came to military reform, but questioned his experience and ability to run a large organisation such as the DoD.

“What is his views on China? What is his views on capability development within the Pentagon? What is his views on the asymmetric capability development? What is his views on the future role of U.S. Navy or the US Army?” he said.

“Those sorts of big strategic questions are very unknown. And of course, being a junior infantry officer does not qualify you to work at the strategic level or bureaucratic level.”

Mostly fair, but he ended up a Major. Thats hardly a junior infantry officer, so again, someone is being dishonest to make a point.

What experience does he need?

His wiki says Major( not the title you highlighted in red) and he has been to JFK uni cmon! What more do you want!

I'm pretty sure that the POTUS swears an oath to protect the US constitution, not ignore it.

The hoops he would have to jump through to get that amendment off the constitution are pretty humungous.
Needs at least a 3/4 majority in both the house and senate I believe, then more red tape to get through after that.

It's almost impossible.

It's a National Guard officer ranking, not the nuclear codes.

As for experience, I will let the world roll their eyes at the appointment and you can watch on.

You'd need a fair bit of bipartisan support. One thing Trump in particular is very unlikely to see.
