That new US defence secretary Hegseth, is like appointing an ex Thirroul butcher player with 150 country first grade games to his name (after playing some flegg games), followed by 3 years as the clubs president, who also has a league podcast, while never having a job managing more than 5 or so employees.....to the Chair and CEO of the NRL....

Take away his views.....yeah he has experience in the field, but nothing like what is required .....

Too much military experience might make it difficult to reform the US military, which is what they want to do. Some merkin who loves it the way it is probably won't be motivated to change it too much.

Secretary of Defence not only ensures that the forces are functional but plays an advisory role on hot operational and strategic matters to both the president and allies.

Won’t he be a hoot at the table when the world big dogs meet ?

Our Chief of Defence is the top serving military person .... its not even that dude anymore.

I would imagine the equivalent of that is the US chiefs of each of their military.

So i think that leave us with our equivalent being General Richard Marles .... or whatever random minister gets appointed at the time.

The difference here vs there is that POTUS appoints anyone he likes, civilians or congressman, subject to the approval of the floor.

Below POTUS, the guy in charge over there is the Secretary of Defence.

Yes i understand that. And the dude he appointed may be a dud. In all likelihood he will probably have a falling out and resign lol ... though maybe if he is not the standard establishment cuck he and Trump might get along better.

But at the end of the day, he isnt solely going to be making military decisions. Just like our Ministers for whatever dont solely make decisions. ... He has some power to make things shit, but thats no different to our govts and their ministers making things shit.

You've kinda white-washed the situation. The facts are that Trump appoints loyalists and actual merit is very low on the need list.

I assume inexperienced loyalist is the opposite of job-ready establishment career cucks aka ooga booga deep state aka people that might say NO ?

This country is getting weak minded to these absolute f**kwits and given them so much power.

State Premier Jacinta Allan, on X, fired a broadside earlier at the protesters earlier this morning, saying "we are all a bit sick of this stuff".
"Blocking the Christmas windows won't change a thing in the Middle East, but it will let down a bunch of kids in Melbourne. Who does that help?" she wrote.
"People have a right to demonstrate, no one has a right to divide.
"We cannot let ugly protests ruin a beautiful Christmas tradition, and we cannot let violence, division and vilification ruin what makes Victoria great."

The Victorian Premier doesn't sound weak-minded to me.
What power is she giving them?
