I'm not sure, as national economies are subject to a whole lot of factors outside of the control of a government during its term.

Australia's economy is stronger now than when Albo was elected. We'll see how much voters focus on that.

The claim that Australia's economy is stronger now than when Albanese was elected isn't entirely accurate. While inflation has dropped from its peak and the government achieved a budget surplus, GDP growth has slowed, unemployment has risen to 4.1%, and interest rates remain high. The economy has seen mixed outcomes rather than outright strength.

It will be interesting what Minns does here.

Indeed.
However, it's not just about Jo.
What is it with all these politicians of all persuasions thinking they can constantly take the piss?
Why for example, does Jo think it's ok to summon her taxpayer funded govt supplied "uber" for a long weekend away?
She's Transport minister ffs. She should have caught the train, and then she'd personally have seen what a debacle the CCN line is.
But, as I said, she's not alone with this type of rorting. They all do it at one time or another. Until they get caught.

Its pretty funny she is grilling him over getting money for some political thing. Funny as in totally hypocritical.

How much money does Elizabeth Warren make every year in contributions from pharma, food, agriculture industries? .... its in 7 figures .... same for pretty much every person grilling him.

This isn't quite right, political donations go to the campaign of the individual, not the individual, so it's not the same thing.

Technically Warren makes 0 dollars from those donations, what she gets is funding to be re-elected.

I’ll give you a rain check Bandy, someone’s f**ked up at work and I’m heading in.

Hopefully don’t get arrested by security.

It’s a colleague I like, so no snitching to the bosses. Illegal and loving it.

Well on that basis, because "the economy" is so broad, it will always see mixed outcomes in some degree. Which makes the claim that one party or leader - like Trump - or other deserves credit for a stronger economy rather farcical?

You're right that the economy is broad and will always have mixed outcomes. However, policy decisions can still influence key indicators like inflation, employment, and growth. While no leader has absolute control over the economy, their policies can create conditions that help or hinder economic performance. So while claims of sole credit (or blame) are often exaggerated, leadership and policy direction still matter.

Yes, that’s my understanding of how it works.

And some policies take longer to have an effect or are phased in etc.

Exactly. Economic policies often have delayed effects, and some changes might not be fully felt until years later. This makes it difficult to attribute economic conditions solely to the current government, as some trends may be influenced by policies from previous administrations.

That's a good point. Road-user charges for EVs, higher registration fees, or a broader shift to usage-based taxes could be on the table.

Yes, all these things would be on the table, ironically making them less attractive.

I can see some kind of chip going into each car, no matter what propels it -and your journey taxed per km.

But also a number of exemptions like we had during co-vid.

Then an Appeal system to sort out disputes, a tribunal and then federal court I guess.

The challenge will be balancing fairness, privacy concerns, and making sure it doesn’t discourage EV uptake too much. It'll be interesting to see how they roll it out.
