still wondering who the kids are that are gonna step up .... in the past there were younsters who were deadset certainties to step up, I am just struggling to see who atm
I think our youngsters are already starting to step up.
Against the Sharks at our last start, we played well and took the points and everyone in here was saying how good we looked.
A quick look at the various 17 players we have used this year shows little difference between our best game the Sharks in round 13 and our two worst games (Round 3 v Nth Qld lost 42-6 and Round 9 v Bulldogs lost 46-12). In fact, there are only 4 different players in Round 13 compared to our round 1 game versus the Broncos.
Difference from Round 1 to Round 13 In: Hayne, Ryan, Smith, Paulo. Out: E Tonga, Lasalo, Horo, McGuire
Difference from Round 3 to Round 13 In: Hayne, Ryan, Smith, Paulo, Out: W Tonga, Lasalo, McGuire, OHanlon
Difference from Round 9 to Round 13 In: Blair, Smith. Out: W Tonga, McGuire
So the key differences are the return of Hayne and Smith from injury, the inclusion of two youngsters in Ryan and Paulo and more experience gained by Sio and Blair who were there in Round 1.
For next year we need to lock these 4 youngsters in (already done) and look at replacing the experience we are losing with players of similar or better skills and experience in order to support the further development of these youngsters (and others). Just because we havent announced any signings (except Kelly) doesnt mean they arent made or arent being made.
We need to have some patience and trust in Nolan and his ability to recruit and retain and not continuously look to be all doom and gloom when we don't know the real story - yet.
And like others, I am happy to be proven right and will admit it if proven wrong over time.
