Sad news here

from Neil Murray’s Facebook page

It's a sad day to get an early call from Sammy Butcher to tell me his last and younger brother and original drummer for the Warumpi Band has passed on. I have wonderful memories of when Sammy and I first had a jam together In Papunya and he turned up and played an upturned flour drum with twigs! He is the drummer on the album Big Name No Blankets and our first 1983 single " Jailanguru Pakarnu" He did many tours with us and he always had a no nonsense solid feel- that we missed terribly when he wasn't there. He shredded more drumsticks than any drummer I've ever known. He was always genial and cheerful and would tease me in a good natured way. " You still mucking round with music" he would say. On our tour of Europe when I told him I was going to visit Scotland (land of my great great grandfather) for the first time- he told me " You should". I said " "Why's that?" He said " Well you look Scottish". It was the first time anyone had told me that. I wondered how he would know.
Like I said, we missed his playing dearly when he wasn't there. And we miss him more than ever now. RIP Tjapanangka.

He was a great drummer. I enjoyed his style/groove.

whoever that dude is with Queen can also hold a tune.
A cross between Freddy mercury and Liza Minnelli , but man ... they’d be doing well to find a better replacement than him.

I was at Alice Cooper last Saturday night, now there was a show, both by way of the music and theatrics, but I heard Bohemian Rhapsody coming from the stadium as I was walking to the station. Adam Lambert seemed to be struggling a bit (to my ears), but I love your "cross between Freddie Mercury and Liza Minnelli" description, perfect !

If you get a chance watch the footage of him when he was on Americas got talent or whatever. He is something else. Theres a good one where he sings with Kiss I think.

Yeah he surprised me as well.Thought it was stupid going on without Freddy but Lambert does a pretty good job.

Off chops at the brass monkey presently watching Hancock cafe. Awesome cover band. That is all.
Hope the beer taps are working- few weeks back watching Tex Perkins I had to drink bottles of corona - felt completely inadequate

Didn't you ever hear the stories about JDW and Col Joye and the Joyboys?

The stories about her and Hendo?

Thought you had your finger on the pulse so to speak.
