Australian etiquette queen June Dalley Watkins has fallen off the perch.

JD Watkins was rumoured to have had a fling with onetime Liberal Party leader (opposition leader to Gough Whitlam) Billy Snedden, when Billy died on the job in the 1980s. The story was told by HG Nelson and Roy Slaven in the early days of This Sporting Life on 2JJJ.

Billy Snedden was a bigger rooter than Barnaby Beetrooter.

Didn't know JDW was involved when Billy was on the job. I heard there was more than one and less than three others involved when Billy boys ticker gave out.

I checked the facts with Dr Google and apparently it wasn't JDW who was having a fling with Billy when he passed away but an ex girlfriend of Billy's son. Looks like HG and Roy made up the story.

Fake nooze on 'This Sporting Life' has to be bullshit. They were always 100% on the money.

Those stories of Aussie Joe Bewwwg-ner were spot on. Dragging the old punching bag out and hanging it in the back shed. Getting fight fit to challenge Iron Mike.

David Roback—the producer and multi-instrumentalist who co-founded Mazzy Star alongside Hope Sandoval—has died, according to a representative for the band. A key figure in the Los Angeles Paisley Underground scene of neo-psychedelia in the 1980s, Roback also played in bands such as Rain Parade and Opal. He was 61 years old. The cause of death has yet to be announced.

I don't mind Mazzy Star, but I absolutely loved the Rain Parade back in the early 80s, especially their debut album Emergency Third Rail Power Trip.

“fade into you” is on every one of my cruisey playlists I’ve made since it was released.

I think I’ve heard j mascis do a version too.

Just heard that the Yanks were at it again and that there was a fatal mass shooting in a Milwaukee Brewery. I hope these two chics got through unscathed.

and another fellow bass player, Keith Olsen who died yesterday. His very dominant fuzz bass can be heard on the garage punk classic Talk Talk by The Music Machine.

But probably better known as a producer in the 70s, 80s and 90s, incl The Fleetwood Mac Fleetwood Mac album (he one with Rhiannon) and Jessie's Girl by Rick Springfield.

Keith Olsen

I watched the Sound City doco last year, believe he did quite a bit of work there. Well worth a watch.

and a big name in Australian jazz, Don Burrows, though he hadn't been well for quite a while.
The Australian jazz icon Don Burrows has died aged 91. Burrows was responsible for taking Australian jazz to the world stage, as well as bringing it into homes across the country through his countless TV appearances and recordings. Equally good on flute, clarinet and sax.
