I must be a sheep. I don't have a big issue with the use of sweeping powers in this context.

Overreaching? well I wonder how the police are supposed to police breaches if they have to apply for warrants.

I guess I see it as a necessary evil.

I know our country has been accused of being a police state, and our history with things like the springbok tours wasn't flash, but as long as these powers are time limited and have no standing in the presence of a Vaccine I say get to it.

I think it all depends on how, when and in what circumstances it's enforced.

If it's a law that they can file away to address blatant and grievous breaches, fine, I suppose. Anything more than that, no thanks.

I would be very concerned if I thought there was systemic corruption in our cops.

It is a big deal though, people are right to question it.

It could be easily abused that's true.

So far the police seem to have been very moderate, they emphasize education instead of prosecution....that gives me some comfort.

I have to admit, I care very little about all this privacy stuff - Five Eyes, this bill etc. I wake up in the morning, have my toast, kiss my family on the head, go to work, come home. Then occasionally play golf or have a beer. I've got nothing to hide.

yeah, all of the privacy stuff is overdone. But nobody wants to live in a police state.

And we are a long way from that, for sure. But giving the police additional powers/removing restraints should involve careful consideration. It shouldn’t be done like this, under any circumstances IMO

anyway, I read the legislation. I would like to know what the prerequisites are that need to be satisfied for a Section 11 order to be made. That’s not clear.

Pretty disappointing to hear on the news this morning that Maori are playing the race card on tangi restrictions

Those restrictions are pretty ridiculous though. You can trust a whole bunch of people out on the piss to follow guidelines, but not people mourning the loss of a loved one?

Agree the funeral restrictions are ridiculous, if one of my loved ones was dying through all this I’d have ended up in jail probably, but the white man down the road doesn’t have any extra funeral rights so the race card isn’t required

Meh. The legislation specifically addressed them so they responded specifically.

Could have responded minus the “ingrained racism” quote though, doesn’t do anyone any favours

Moving on, its already showing things are a bit of a mockery when old mate at the viaduct is having a party tonight for 100 people

It addressed them in the sense it mentioned tangi, but if funerals were mentioned in the same sentence they can’t really complain of being singled out. The restrictions are harsh, but they apply to everybody.

Look, I'm not big into conspiracy theories, but this guy raises some good questions that should be asked of people like Fauci and Gates
