Parramatta to be ruled out for ACL final

Western Sydney are likely to be kicked out of their home of Parramatta Stadium and moved to a bigger venue if they progress to the Asian Champions League final.

The Wanderers face FC Seoul away in their semi-final first leg next Wednesday before hosting the Korean club at Parramatta Stadium a week later.

Should the A-League club advance, ANZ Stadium looks set to be the venue for the first leg of the final on Saturday October 25.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) inspects all the venues before every stage of the ACL competition to ensure they meet various requirements.

While approving Parramatta Stadium for the group stage, quarter-finals and semis, the 22,000-seat venue will likely be deemed unsuitable to accommodate the large crowd a Saturday night final would draw.

Nobody likes to see small crowds at big games. Except a bunch of Eels and Wanderers fans.

I have seen the goals on the news from these games, what is the big deal about size of the stadium, most games in Asia seem to have about 400 spectators

Waits for Suity to explain this is incorrect :)

I'm pretty sure Asians prefer to stay at home and watch it on the big screen.

The Wanderers need to make the final before this even becomes an issue. That's a very tough ask against Seoul FC.

The J League crowds average about 20,000, but the bigger team average 25-30k across the season. The smaller teams draw Raiders-level crowds. Crowds in other countries are generally pretty poor.

Hopefully this rumoured game to be played at Belmore in 2015 will be Dogs v Eels...

Fancy a club choosing to move a home game away from Homebu$h and back to their traditional home!

Only for one game. Only for one year and only as a tribute to their history, not as a permanent move.

Would you like a few more straws to clutch at mate.

Also it will be their lowest drawing game, Most probably the Cowboys, as they have a very low draw in Sydney.

They won't get a crowd there.
No one wants to go to Belmore.

That's not true.
The place will be packed, depending upon weather and opposition. It's history and fans will flock there otherwise.
However, it's just plain dumb to think they'll allocate an Eels game there. Only a Phantom poster would suggest that.
BTW, I'd love to see an Eels game there. I spent 4 seasons going there to watch the Eels at their relocated home ground.. Hardly missed a game. Good memories!!!
Amazing that in those days, hardly anyone complained about it. These days, whingers won't go half the distance to a better stadium.
