OT: Parra Stadium sharing

Well, I am a league and football fan, but as you say, whatever gets the job done.
Pirtek is a hole. It's so decrepid in modern day stadium facilities it ain't funny. The only good thing it has going for it is its sight lines. Everything else is rubbish.
Hopefully, both the Wanderers and Eels can give politics enough of a push to give us all a really decent place to watch football and league.

Agreed on all counts.

Really? I actually think the sight lines are terrible in the lower terraces. Should have been built with a slight curve - not straight.

There is not too much going for the joint is there !

Surely they could rebuild Parra Stadium for a lot less than $350M.

I think for the knock down and rebuild it would be minimum $120M. With infrastructure around the stadium to be built I reckon in the end the entire project including: stadium, and transport in the form of light rail would probably cost around $200-$250M if they do it properly.

I'll quite happily lend you some of mine mate. You might have to sharpen some of my chisels though.
And, I have a massive stock of No More Gaps. You'll find it comes in pretty handy.

That's madness. And probably close to the truth. I don't know why shit costs so much these days, although I'm inclined to blame red tape and OHS. On the plus side, my blimp idea is starting to look ever more feasible.

some nice people there Suity, although pretty clueless

I feel like breaking **** up at homebush after reading that.

good thing is big response from wanderers fans today far out numbering anything positive about the upgrade.

is fitzpatrick still on the board?

I think this should be the subject of a special sticker bomb campaign.

So they want to break shit up at Homebush because they dont get their govt handouts that suit them ? And they blame Fitzy, lol

Nice people.

Exclusive: NRL chief Dave Smith’s plan to crash tackle ANZ Stadium and build bigger Allianz arena

THE NRL is lobbying Premier Mike Baird to build a new 65,000-seat Allianz Stadium at Moore Park, making it Sydney’s pre-eminent sports arena instead of Sydney Olympic Park’s ANZ.

The word is that NRL chief Dave Smith is also urging the government to consider building a new 40,000-seat, fully-roofed stadium at Parramatta.

At least we could move all of our home games to Homebush while they rebuild Parra Stadium, keeping everyone happy!

Someone needs to educate David Smith with regards to the contracts signed with ANZ prior to its construction.
Parra Stadium cannot be larger than 35000.
Allianz cannot be larger than 48000.

http://www.treasury.nsw.gov.au/__da...ralia_updated_contracts_summary_June_2002.pdf

See page 19.

There are so many options for ANZ to scuttle these developments, including amazingly, something as simple as an extra 5% more cover for seats at Allianz. Therefore - no roof there.
If Dave Smith's wishes happened, there would be a massive compensation payout to ANZ. His dreams ain't gonna happen.

The Wanderers and Parra just need to keep pressing for a bigger upgrade than what has currently had funds allocated for. We should be looking at at least 30000. Considering this will be the last upgrade to the stadium for 30-50 years, we should be pushing for the 35000 allowed under the ANZ contract.
BTW, the ANZ contract is in effect until 2031.

Eels officials have been blown away by the phenomenal early response from supporters.
It is further proof that Parramatta Stadium, which the Eels and Wanderers share, deserves a major upgrade as much as any other Sydney venue.
“Parramatta is the capital of western Sydney yet play out of a third-rate stadium,” Seward said.
“There is no question we need better facilities. We recently went to a venue in the United States that can get 65,000 fans in and out quicker than we can with 18,000.
“Eels and Wanderers fans deserve better.”
Eels management being publically quoted about the need for improvements at Parra Stadium. This along with speculation Smith is supportive of the need for upgrades bodes well for a long-term future for both codes at an enhanced Parra Stadium. Now we just need someone to stump up the money....
