Ok then........

a better run down on what went on tonight...................................

http://www.westsydneyfootball.com/topic/6304-parramatta-stadium-new-stadium-news/page-44

Alright, so I went to the supporter forum. Apart from a 40 minute long derailing of the meeting to talk about food, it was reasonably useful to ascertain information about the new stadium. Some steam of consciousness thoughts based on my scribbled notes:

The meeting was held by the Price Waterhouse Cooper group who are writing the design brief due by end feb.
•The new stadium is planned to be built between October 2016 & April 2019, which is the end of the next NRL season, and the start of the 2019 one. It is approximately 950 days or 2 years and 6 months.
•The Government appears to have "fixed" the capacity at 30,000 with 3,000 of those being corporate seats.
•It will be a 'multi-use' venue, with League, Football, Union as well as other community events and concerts being planned for.
•It will not be a 'club home' supposedly, I imagine if the Eels continue to win upgrades to their North Parramatta facilities, this may actually happen.
•Despite not being a 'club home', it will still be a 'home venue' for WSW & Eels.
•The idea exists for a PCYC building to be there, although it sounds like a wishy washy concept that sounds good, but will not make it past the beancounters and designers into the final stadium.
•I would say a certainty not to have a full covered roof. It will probably be at best a roof that covers the spectators for 'normal' rain, but no sliding or semi-retractable roof to cover the pitch.
•A new 50k to 55k stadium at Moore Park looks like it will go ahead in the future, and was specifically not mentioned as a "redevelopment" of the existing SFS. Note that lobbying has already taken place by the likes of the smurfs, to have the new stadium built alongside the old SFS, with the SFS being demolished after.
•ANZ is getting a 'redevelopment'.
•The limitation of 30k looks to be a financial decision at this stage, the reason given being an additional 5k worth of seating plus the facilities costing a lot of extra money.
•Expansion can be built into a stadium, but costs the stadium seating and space, with the footprint required for the expanded capacity taking up space that could be used for seating in a non-expandable facility.
•There was a mention of the Govt's plan being for "blockbusters" to be moved to ANZ or the new Moore Park, or in the very long term, the 4th major Sydney stadium (in Western Sydney somewhere).
•Safe standing was discussed, Eels fans (and the club) are deadset against it (the fans less so, mostly because they don't care).
•Stadium will be flip seating.
•The PWC people asked us if we wanted to see a view of Parramatta Park. To which I said "no-one cares" and that was the answer from everyone else.
•The start had a derailment of about 30 minutes talking about food.
•The "Green Guide" was repeatedly mentioned regarding the design of the stadium, it looks like the Govt have said nothing can be outside what the Green Guide states, specifically seating rake, and the depth of space for each seat to the next one.
•I mentioned that having a 30k stadium will create the same issue that Victory have, with limited tickets to the general public & limiting memberships.
•Eels fans don't know the difference between their club memberships, their season tickets, and the Wanderers "members" being season ticket holders.
•They get very defensive when you mention that the Wanderers are the reason the stadium is being rebuilt, or that the Wanderers will be the main tenants.
•There were comments about the rake of the RBB section, I mentioned the Dortmund Yellow Wall and the PWC people actually knew what I was talking about.
•The Police had their own meeting with PWC that day, and there was a discussion at the end about the police presence. Unsurprisingly, the Eels fans don't care while Wanderers fans don't want in your face policing.

f**k me.

Do us Eels want a decent stadium or not???????????????????????????????????

f**king pussies.
Who in the hell is representing our club and pushing for the maximum best outcome possible?
The AFL screwed our govt before for serious dollars on stadium upgrades.
Does our club just not give a shit?

With all due respect suity, do you really know what the eels are doing. These posts are very pro wandrers people. Sure you merkins wanna stand and flounce around, but if others dont then thats their right too. If there is a good comprimise then great, but then end of the grounds are the "cheap" seats and if you build it all standing then you cut out a mass of cheap seats for those who dont wanna be jumping around like a moshpit

The Wanderers are not the only reason the new stadium is being built. They have pushed harder for a new stadium (WSW owners have some good connections), but they wouldn't be getting the upgrade if it wasn't for us and other sides that will play out of the venue.

True mate, but don't kid yourself that the Eels would be getting this stadium without them.

I dont claim to be any kind of expert, but from whaat ive read its areas for standing room with rails n shit to help stop merkins piling all over the top of others. But be fair dinkum, nothing is gonna stop mad merkins being mad merkins if they wanna be. Yeah they are talking about removable seats, cool i guess thats the compromise if its feasible. Dunno, what does shit like that cost compared to fixed seats or no seats at all?

Here's a perfect example of safe standing.

It ain't hard mate to get this sort of shit right.
But, we are Australia.
Here is Sydney's and Parramatta's first chance for 30 years to actually get a decent rectangular stadium built, and I can already feel the red tape and anti atmosphere and greenies ruining it again, just like they did in the 80's. It will be f**ked up again, and we'll end up with some pretty boy stadium that will be out of date again in another 30 years.

How can the above pictures of the 32000 seat stadium be bad for Parramatta? Who cares seriously, if the height is 5 or 10 metres above what the FPP want?
We bowed to their whims 30 years ago, and now, we are having to do it again.
Let's not f**k it up twice, although, I can't help thinking that we will.

The question will be whether the RBB hold up the process purely because they insist on a safe standing zone. Surely a new stadium that suits the majority of their needs is more important.

Seriously though, if it's easily reconfigurable why is it even a concern? And why would the Eels fans care so long as it doesn't effect their viewing?

It can double as a durrie smoking area during eels games so all the toothless wonder eels supporters can honk on without missing the action.

It's a win-win.

Tbh i cant see anything of what the safe standing area is there.

Exactly.
There's 25000 people there, standing safely.
When it's convertedback for the knitters, it would be 15000 seated.

So what's the problem the Eels have?

F*ck knows.

I honestly think they need to get over the fact that it's not 'our' stadium anymore. The current stadium is a multi purpose stadium, and the new one will be too.

If they can figure out how to implement the safe seating, which does not impact and other sports or events at the venue, great. Make it happen.

Who says they have a problem? As long as it suits their needs i assume they dont.

The resistance to putting thousands more people into an area isnt gonna come from the eels, its gonna come from the cops and people who see it as a safety issue.

Safe standing area in the lower tier.
Easily converted to all seater when required.

When pressed about the low proposed capacity, this was the feedback........

We tried to stress to them that this was the case but it looks like the bean counters have already made up there mind. It seemed that the cost per seat from 30k to 35k rose astronomically & the government needs to spread money across the other two stadiums in Sydney plus other sports infrastructure they are planning.

The other ridiculous concept was that they wanted to have different stadiums in Sydney for different purposes. So if our derby sold out, we'd just move to Allianz cause that is a 55k stadium which couldn't accomodate us. Ridiculous idea. Mack stressed that we would play every game here, regular season, ACL, finals games & we wouldn't be looking to move to another stadium but I don't think they grasped our point.

See.
No doubt, despite how hard the Wanderers are pushing, the govt will f**k this up.
