I’m of the opposite opinion than most. I want to see more black and white with the rules.
The problem is “letting them play footy”
It just leads to teams creeping forward, more time laying in the ruck etc etc they just keep pushing it more and more.

You can’t penalise it 3 out of 20 times that’s when teams cop uneven treatment on when and where they get their token penalties.

I’m a fan of the crackdown 25 penalties a game, pro athletes get use to it quick and start following the rules. They just need to stick with it all year long.

I guess consistency is all we ask for. It really cannot be that hard for them.

I realise this is primarily a bloke’s forum, but we still need to be respectful, lads.

Do we want to send the message that females are not welcome here?

Lots of misogyny in here. Can’t believe some of you blokes have written some of these comments.

Some of you need to have a good look at yourselves.

I agree the obstruction penalty has gone out the window, they just stop and it's a play the ball.
Penalise them they will learn.
Or when they drop to ground, that's an involuntary tackle so penalise them on that.
If not going to penalise someone who drops then drop all body weight its a legal tackle

The problem with that is you then get the likes of Gus and Joey mouthing off at every opportunity about how pedantic the refs are, and that they should just get out of the way and let the players play.

Then eventually the refs buckle and we’re back to square one.

I can't believe people would get offended by the fact that female referees exist in 2023. But here we are.

It's offence culture gone mad.
No one cares that there are female referees, if there's a whole heap of them that are better than their male counterparts then fantastic. I just find it funny how quickly people blow up at a bit of piss taking.
You can’t judge or even discern other people’s motives.
Maybe some people actually have principles…
It took you just 1 line to judge though.

Not a Referee

And Klein isn't?

Takes a certain mindset to be a ref/umpire, no matter the sport. Watch a netball game, whistle never stops! Contact!

I think picking up a whistle is gender neutral.

Hence I go with "Not a referee".

Not offended.

Stating facts and asking the question.

Highly doubt they'd keep pace aerobically on the quicker games.

Or be anywhere near the faster guys in the competition caught on the break to be anywhere near the position required to adjudicate.

Am I wrong or is that a fair question to ask?

If you can't ref the entire spectrum of games then you shouldn't get the call up. IMO.

I think it’s offensive to give them these token games that mean nothing. If it’s development then I’m sorry but 2 games out of 192 or whatever it is can be described as pissing into the wind.
