watched Tim, for 10 minutes, a couple of weeks ago on the Millenium Magic weekend.. from those 10 minutes i was pretty impressed with his leadership and passing game, kicking game was a little ordinary though.

Aw, you're just trying to steer him away from the Roosters...If his kicking game was ordinary what impressed you..his ball running or defence?????

In all of this, there is one person who you Tim Smith supporters seem to have forgotten. Little bloke with dyed blonde hair. Half-back. Plays for Parramatta. I`ve never heard anyone say "That Kris Keating`s a dud!" Or "We should piss that Keating bloke off."
He tries his arse off every week. He has set the team alight since Finch left. Why not pay him a bit of respect. I keep hearing that "Keating is really a five-eight". Well all I can say is, if he plays better at five-eight than he does at half, he must be one hell of a five-eight.
All you people who continually cry out for Tim Smith`s return, seem to be pretending that we don`t have a half-back at the moment. Well, we do. His name is Kris Keating, and he`s doing just fine as far as I`m concerned. Show him some respect.

Ahhh, my dear Lingard.

6. KK
7. TS
13. Mateo
9. MK

Morris was good with TS but he could not take any of the responsibility off TS's shoulders.

KK could. Furthermore, KK's backup abilities would thrive off Timmy. Especially the kicks.

TBH, Tim Smith's strengths are his kicking game all over the park and attack in the opposition 20.

The rest of his game is not that good. I really worry about his defense too.

KK is small but he gets in there low. As did Sterlo, Langer, Paul Taylor.

T.Smith goes high and gets brushed away.

I see your point (although I think you mean that Kris Keating would thrive off Tim Smith at his best. For mine, we only saw one year of Tim Smith at his best, the rest was mediocre. But there`s no point in arguing about that.)
I still don`t quite understand why people seem so keen on having Keating at five-eight, and to totally dismiss him as a half-back. I`m not saying he wouldn`t be a good five-eight - he`d probably be great. But at the moment, I think he`s doing a damn fine job at half-back. Totally different style to Smith, of course; but that`s okay - there`s lot`s of different styles of half-backs. To be honest, I`d be happy to forget about buying a top half-back; keep K.K. where he is, and buy a top five-eight.
Oh, and don`t forget - Keating has only had four full first-grade games at half. He`s going to get better, you know.

And that's the point. He is not proven as yet. (Well neither is T Smith). And he could suffer from that 2nd year syndrome as well.

However, KK seems mentally tough and I think he can get through that.

T.Smith is not my first choice. A top quality half would be but if there is nothing around, I would risk with T Smith.

I don't think Mortimer/KK combo could really guide us to a premiership.

Mario, I couldn't give a hoot if you think I am a hypocrite or not..Joel Thompson and his dad are good mates of mine, and I will not turn my back on their friendship, irrespective of what people think of me. I know Joel's side of the story..Does anyone else on here?
Ignore my posts if you can't hack them....
I am hoping TIM SMITH comes back to the place. The posters on this forum deserve him. I am just about over the NRL anyway.
To be honest, I get more enjoyment supporting and following my local Club, where the blokes play for their community for sport and not egos, for love of the game, and not money.
( BTW.Our Pie in the Sky match on July 26 is going to be a BLOCK BUSTER -
see http://tiny.cc/udNnt )

Pete, do you know Tim Smith's side of the story in any of the incidents?

I think loyalty and sticking by mates is a terrific quality to have. I really do. Another good quality which is harder to have is to treat each person the same, and not have one set of morals for one person, and a different set for another.

It's not your stance on Tim Smith I have an issue with. I partly agree, and I also think you like to inflame the discussion on here because you love being the maverick - it's the double standard I have an issue with - and it's not sticking by Joel Thompson, it's that you do that but wont give a bloke you dont know the benefit.

pete loves to inflame things cos he loves the attention ... ex-journo isn't he = attention seeker

you can stick up for joel all you want pete - yes you probably know more than anyone - but as fish, suity, stagger, C, avenger, etc etc all say, you are being a major hypocrite by crucifying Tim when you don't even know half the story

So am I !!!! It has nothing to do with the video refs has it

No, not at all. My time has come. I enjoy watching the Eels, but really couldn't care less if they win or lose as long as they have a dip.
I have some great mates in Sydney - we followed the Club everywhere during the sixties. Now they are the same as me. Good to see them win, but no loyalty around the place anymore - so 'who cares'
AS I posted earlier. I get a bigger kick out of the local Club football; organising it, talking about it, reporting on it, and getting blokes to come out, play for the Club and display their footballing skills to people who love the game.
This year the Club has Simon Woolford, Shane Millard, Shaun Timmins and a former Melbourne Storm 'legend' still to be confirmed playing on July 26. (Timmo won't be playing but will be here) Bryan Fletcher was coming also but he has other committments on the same weekend and withdrew from the trip last week. Ben Roarty is a playing member of the Club, and is in contact with a couple of 'retired' Melbourne players
Over the past three seasons, David Furner, Wayne (Snoopy) Collins, Andrew McFadden, Gary Belcher, Darren Smith and Mark Toooooookey have played for Hay Magpies.
Is there any other amateur Club that could boast blokes like that as "Past Players".
It is something the Club and community is VERY PROUD of.
The Magpies are doing something a lot of bush Clubs can't do and that is GROWING
Check it out for yourself on http://tiny.cc/udNnt .

Tim Smith chasing NRL comeback?

Rugbyleaguelive | 07/05/09 | 0

Former Parramatta bad boy Tim Smith wants to make a return to the NRL, but his old club has already said they don’t want him.

Smith, who has put in two man-of-the-match performances in the last three weeks at UK Super League club Wigan, walked out on the Eels last year after a string of indiscretions and revealing he suffered from bipolar disorder.

His agent David Riolo has reportedly confirmed Smith’s intention to rejoin the NRL in 2010.

The new Eels board is not interested in recruiting the playmaker, but teams that could chase the 24-year-old include the Sea Eagles, Raiders, Titans, Panthers and Storm, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Smith, the NRL’s Rookie of the Year in 2005, was involved with several alcohol-related off-field incidents between 2005 and 2007 before leaving the Eels three games into the 2008 season.
No quotes here from any board member, i do remember a quote from ray price saying that he would consider it, also know for a fact that their are other members who are fans and zappia also rates tim very highly, he just needs to convince DA and im very confident he will be wearing the blue and gold one day.

Exactly. I know enough journos personally to know they are (generally) all the same.
Have a look at pete's own posts..........if they aren't bagging someone out, they always come back to talking about himself. "Let's put myself on a pedestal, 'cause no one else will........................" - It's all about Who he know's. Who he's met. Who he's friend's with. Who he sat with at Origin time. Who he coached. Who he managed. blah blah blah.
Pete - you're struggling big time mate.

You still haven't answered the double standards question. I know why. You don't have an answer.

Sorry I have friends. Sorry I go to Origin in Brisbane, Sorry I managed A Country team, sorry I don't rate Tim Smith as a player. Sorry I have Joel Thompson as a friend. Sorry I express an opinion, and sorry I am a friend of Denis Fitzgerald's.
This is not about double standards. In my opinion Tim Smith CAN'T play. Joel Thompson CAN. I can't do anything about Joel's 'alleged' off field drama, except provide him and his family my support. He has pleaded not guilty, btw, and is still contracted to the Raiders who know the full circumstances of the 'alleged' incident
What's double standard about that?
You read things that aren't there...And NO Suity, I'm not struggling. I'm going very well thanks.
BTW Suity, speaking of double standards, are you and your 3P mates keen to have Tony back as CEO to replace Fitzy when Tony can't guarantee Cronulla's existence and has other things going on in his tenure at the Sharks?
It's ALL ABOUT you really Paul. Don't try and deflect it. You are struggling BIG time mate.
Do you have an answer...!!!!
Is Tim Smith a player YOU want at the Club and is Tony Zappia YOUR choice as CEO?
Get on your red coat - Run with the hares, hunt with the hounds.
AND mate, just because you perceive the good Lord to be an attention seeker, don't just wrap me into the same bundle.
Of course, as an ex newspaper man. I want people to read my material, just the same as an ex-publican, I wanted people to drink my grog.
As a builder, don't you want people to get you to build their homes.
I KNOW A LOT OF BUILDERS and they ALL WANT THE SAME THING - to build someones home = ATTENTION SEEKERS

Pete, the double standard isnt about whether you think Tim Smith can play or not.

It's about you labelling the guy a dickhead, berating him for his off field incidents - yet cutting the Raiders and Joel Thompson slack, giving them the benefit of the doubt, innocent until proven guilty, because you know their side to the story - considerations you wont give Tim Smith even though only know the media story.....
